...would you prefer your team were winning by scoring lots of goals even though they concede many (i.e Manchester Derby 4-3) or just win games with few goals while conceding little e.g 1 nils

How would you like your team to win matches? 40 votes

lots of goals scored, don't care about conceding.

    I am a manager :)

Last season my team got an award for "Best Defence". We conceded only 16 goals in 18 games.

I go with option 2 here, every time.

I wish there was an option 3 though. Win games by 4, 5 or 6-0.

I'd rather if you could see the team's quality improving by the week and not many if that's the case.

Score plenty of goals and don't concede much. No reason why you can't do both. It's not a straight choice imo.

its all about the performance .... and having a laugh.... not about who scores and who has a better defence.

I'm all for showboating (except I'm crap at it...but if you have the skills and doesnt cost the team the game... play on !)

get the tactics right... simple 1-2touch football and before you know it everyone is having fun, scoring goals and winning :D ...well... everyone except the opposition.

I would change the tactics just enough every match to make sure the players werent quite sure what they were at.
Make sure to bollock the lads that work hard, praise the lads who showboat and stand up when they lose the ball.
Howl at the ref at every possible occasion.
If the defence is having a nightmare, take off a striker who has only had the ball kicked over his head for the hour beforehand to replace him with another show-boater or less mobile character.

Oh and if I ever got far enough to get a press conference, its a toss up whether I would do a Joe F****** Kinnear type rant, or the David Moyes stone cold sit in silence/sulk type performance.

I reckon I could go far in management!

No need for Brazilian football. Just keep it tidy at the back and make use of set-pieces.

You have to get the defence right. That is the first place to work on.

Just because you defend well, doesn't mean that you can't attack as well.

Personally I like the pressure game. High tempo, pressure on the opposition when we don't have the ball, team working together to get the ball back as quick as possible. Barcelona are the typical example of this.

I also see this with David Moyes // I'm not comparing Barca with Everton for a second, so keep your hair on ;)

He has the defence right. It has been our core over the previous 5 or 6 seasons. We got that right first, then we can work on going forward. Moyes likes the high tempo and pressure on the opposition when trying to win the ball back. If you then get the right players in the attacking positions, then you can score goals....

also, your game plan and style very much depends on the quality and fitness of your players. Sometimes you only have the hoofball option ala Jack Charlton :p

Simple attacking football, coach the players to attack either down the wings tru the middle or when needed over the top. Solid defence with players knowing months beforehand exactly what they ahve to do. But also allowing them the freedom to express themselves in the other half of the pitch ;)

Go for complete footballers not pigeon holed positions.

i would play a 433 when we have the ball and a 451 when we dont, but ensure the players can do 442 or 352 so if i change it they know what to do.

I would wear a nice suit and just sit for the entire 90 minutes, feel if a manager is shouting at players they either dont know what to do or arent doing what supposed to. Either way 5 minutes of the player doing/not doing and hes off the pitch.

Would also ensure all players are pay as you play :D
