Figuring out my bra size

    Hi Ladies,

I wondered if anyone here could help me figure out how to measure my own bra size correctly? Some online websites tell me to measure around the underneath of my bust and then add 4 inches for the bandsize; others tell me that the first measurement *is* the bandsize. Then there are websites that say that for each 1 inch difference between the bandsize and the boob size is a cup size - but what about double cup sizes? How do they work?

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good (and reliable) place to get measured in Dublin?

    Thanks a million - I'm confused!

M&S will also measure for you.

tbh I have found M&S hit and miss when it comes to taking measurements and have even had them make up sizes :(

I always relied on M&S - didn't realise how piss-poor it was until I used Arnotts. M&S would constantly measure me as too small a cup size and too broad a back size.

Off-topic guff will result in a holiday from TLL.

    Keep it clean folks.

    Thanks,

If you know the ballpark size, get a few bras out in close sizes (back and cup).

The band should be tight around the back and not slope upwards. The cup should enclose the breast fully with no loose material and no skin bulging out in any direction. there should be a smooth sillouette when a tight tshirt is worn over it.

I know my ballpark size and try several on when I'm buying, as it can vary slightly from brand to brand.

Im a d cup and find different brands fairly reliable except the band measurement .....Ive actually had a 34 too big in one make and a 36 too small in another , Can ya beat that ????,

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I never realised that all this bra stuff was so complicated! I'm about 30 around the underside of my bust and 36 around the bust, so as far as I can work out I'm either a 30D or a 32C. I'll head into Arnotts and get measured and try a few on to sort it out.

Do they charge for measuring? Or are you just expected to make a purchase after?

No, its free. Obviously they'd like you to buy something but you're not obliged to. They will let you leave the premises without a purchase. :)

I've heard great reports about Bramora on Earlfort Terrace as well for measuring.

even when you get measured remember to always try on new bras, they vary from size to size. i have a perfect fitting one thats 32dd, but sometimes it can be 34d, and sometimes 34 is just swimming on me

Tbh bras are just like other clothing - you'll have an idea of the size you are, but take a few into the fitting rooms with you - a few back sizes and a few cup sizes - and only buy the ones that fit you properly, support your boobs, and look right under your clothes - including in profile!

Well if you're 30 around the underside, and you haven't added on the four inches, that would make you 30 + 4 = 34 for the band size.

And 36 is 2 up from 34. If both were the same, you would be A, one inch difference B, two inch difference C etc.

So based on what you've said, i'd say 34C which is about average. But get measured properly and try a few different bras on. I find some fit better than others.
