    Hello.

I recently got a projector set up in my sitting room - this thread has all the details http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055617625 but to summarise, I have the following components hooked up:

    - Panasonic PT-AX200E Projector
    - Onkyo TX-SR307 AV Receiver
    - SFX 5.1 Speakers
    - Basic Phillips DVD player
    - NTL Digital Box (MMDS)

I'm very happy with it in general. However, the projector is HD ready, and at the moment, I've got the DVD player and NTL video going to the projector using an RCA video cable (phono cable). Someone suggested buying a DVD player/HDD recorder with HDMI out - that way I'd be able to get an improved picture for both my DVD's and my NTL.

I've done a lot of googling, and I've found some players that appear to come close to what I need. However, they all seem to have built in tuners, which is kindof throwing me off - I don't think I need that, since I'll need to hook the NTL tuner up to the box, so I can send the video up to the projector via HDMI.

So, I guess what I'm asking for is a recommendation for a player/recorder that will do what I need!

Also, I'm guessing people will wonder why I don't just but a blue ray player, and get NTL HD or Sky HD with Sky+. I may well buy a blue ray player at some stage, but I have a lot of DVD's so I want to stick with them for the moment. Also, I live in an area that NTL only service via their MMDS signal, so HD is not an option. The management company don't allow Sky dishes so that rules that out!

So, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Also, I'd be interested to hear if people think the NTL quality will even be improved by doing what I'm talking about!

    Thanks,

    Ronan

I was staying in the hotel in Limerick and there happened to be a panasonic shop right next door. I went in, and ended up impulse buying this hdd/dvd recorder: http://www.panasonicshop.ie/product.php?PID=42&ID=6

It's hard to tell if the quality is much better with the upconversion and hdmi link to the projector, but I think it is! It's also good to be able to record stuff now. Although it's an error prone process since I have to set the NTL box to auto-tune to the show in question, and then set the recorder to record at the same time.

I also didn't realise it's a region 2 player. I'd like to make it region free but I haven't been able to find a way of doing that. Anyone know if it's possible for this model? It's the Panasonic DMR-EH59EBL.

    Thanks!
