We are getting married next March and haven't booked a honeymoon yet. We were considering USA maybe Las Vegas. How long should we stay in Vegas and where else should be go? Trying to keep costs down as building a house as well as getting married!

We went to Vegas as part of our honeymoon ( + Disney and Barbados ) and its a great place, but I wouldnt be looking to stay more than 5 nights if I were you !! if money is tight...go with four nights, you could easly cover everything!! enjoy :)*

*But be carefull, 2-3 people are murdered every night there, I always see it on Living's News at 11 o clock :D

i disagree, you can get 5 star resorts for around $150 a night these days, the economy there has tanked and 750ft square suites in places like encore and palazzo are cheaper than 2 star hotels in dublin, the secret in vegas is to stay from sunday to thursday nights, friday and saturday and the prices go skyhigh

regarding how long to stay, 3-4 nights in vegas imo, some people will say shorter but to see most things (strip, fremont street, grand canyon, lake mead/hoover dam) you need about 4 days

regarding other places, san francisco is lovely, though it will be on the cool side in march (mid teens i suspect), its only 1hr flight from vegas, hawaii is another great honeymoon spot often combined with vegas (some of my friends have done both on theirs)

Last year we got rooms in the Venetian for €120 a night. All suites there too. I reckon the same type of room/hotel in dublin would cost about €1000-€1500 a night. I was there from a thursday to sunday too! Prices can vary a lot, it's almost like getting a ryanair flight. Sign up to their e-mails so you know when a good deal is coming up

I was in Vegas again last Jan for 3 nights and heading back in November. Its the best place in the world, I love it there. You can definelty do Vegas on the cheap. There are loads of cheap hotel rooms in the casinos and even cheaper outside them. I would advise to stay in a casino though, much better buzz. Any gambling should be donw in the older casinos on Fremont street, tables are too expensive on the strip. You can get direct flights form London too with Virhin and BA. Definetly do go though, 4 nights is loads. You can fly from Vegas to anywhere in the US too to continue the honeymoon.

    I spent a week in Vegas at the end of my J1 this summer and my thoughts are this;

3/4 days is plenty. You'll have everything seen in Vegas itself by then. My friend remarked that once you've seen one casino you've seen them all and i think that's true to an extent but a few stick out in my mind particularly The Venetian - it's incredible.

It's extremely hot there. We went in the summer and I'm guessing in January it'll be a lot milder. Just be prepared for that.

Hire a car. We managed to albeit at a biggish expense for 3 students but it was the best thing we did. You have free parking between all the casino's so you can hop from place to place. No need to if you stay central though, just walk. Just an additional note that rush hour in Vegas is 9pm :D

See the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. I was flicking through my pictures there and I was thinking they just don't do it justice. It is absolutely incredible.

I reckon you'd need $300 a day in Vegas to properly gamble/pig out and live like a king. We were on a budget and didn't enjoy it as much. Be prepared to spend all that $300 though!

Set up a new email account, go to the websites of all the hotels on the Strip and sign up for their guestbook, you will be amazed at some of the deals that you will receive.

If you do go be sure you check out La Reve @ the Wynn.

    Happy honeymooning

    Hire a car

I don't think you want to be driving around Vegas on honeymoon in a car, unless you wish to visit Lake Mead and the Dam and Death Valley then this would be an option but if the above 3 aren't on your intinerary altogether then there is no need for a car. There is a mono-rail which runs from the Hilton (off the lower end of the strip) up to the MGM grand with stops on the way at stops such as Bally's (opposite the Bellagio). The temperature is March will be hot. You don't need to go to Vegas soley to gamble so having a low budget isn't that big of an issue, you can do anything in Las Vegas and if you gain enough advice before you go you can make it an enjoyable and memorable experience. The show I mentioned, La Reve, is expensive but truly worth every cent and more. As I already said you will get some unbelievable deals in you sign up for the guestbook and remember you don't have to stay in the one place for the entire time, if you see a decent suite deal with one place for 2 nights, take that and the same with another. Make the most of what they offer.

I was in Vegas on Honeymoon this time last week. We were there for five nights as part of a general west coast tour. Loved it, I wouldn't say that 5 days is enough, unless you only plan to do free stuff. You could easily jam in a week or more, depending on your tastes. Alcohol is shockingly expensive unless you're gambling, in which case it's free, but gambling's expensive too :D
Otherwise food and accomodation is the same as the rest of the west coast - roughly similar to Irish prices.

I would advise getting a couple of shows in - KA in the MGM is what we saw (awesome), but there were a few others there which would have been good too. Shows aren't cheap, but feck it, it's your honeymoon, and you won't even notice the cost if you prepay for them.

For the sake of moving around and getting a change though, what others suggest is good - San Francisco, maybe northern California would give you a whole different experience and it's fantastic too.

just back from vegas. Hotels are very cheap there but drinks etc. are expensive. i know drinks are free in the casinos when gambling but I was not into that enough to actually sit there & wait for a cocktail waitress. I would say 5 days is plenty. Vegas is amazing but not really romantic for a honeymoon.

Yeah. Unless your wife is into the place as much as you are then it won't be all that romantic though it is possible to organise a few days out of Vegas seeing sights and such...

Honeymoon doesn't need to be romantic. Antigua is romantic but boring! Vegas is FUN!.

You can get great deals on hotels, 1800hotels.ie are particularly good and also booking.com. I got 5 nights in Caesars Palace Forum Deluxe room for €380 with 1800.

    Errr,, ok.

5 nights in Excaliber for €290 (next May). I guess it depends on when you go and the demand.

    .

Well it doesn't! Depends on the couple! Also, people's idea of romance vary immensely.

I would much rather go party in vegas with my husband than walk along a sandy beach holding hands all day long.
