WIFI Question

I'm sorry if this is a really obvious question but here goes...

Just got an iPhone 3Gs last week and before I got ported I'd been using the WIFI for browsing. Now that the phone element is sorted I can browse using both but obviously with WIFI not costing anything how do I know when it's using WIFI and when it's using O2?

And is there a way to decide which one to use?

    Cheers.

They way to tell is the symbols next to the carrier name. In the first case it's wireless, second is over 3G.

If you Jailbreak your iPhone, you can install an application called SBSettings and turn off your EDGE and 3G network so you can only get online over wireless. This menu appears by swiping your finger across the top of the screen, very handy application.

You might see an "E" too, which means you're only getting "Edge" coverage which is slower than 3G.

    Cheers for that.

Can you decide which one you want to use?

You can switch off both 3G and WiFi if you want, but with both on the iPhone will default to the wireless connection when it is available.

If a wireless network you haven't connected to before is in the area it will prompt you to connect if you want.

When WIFI is available, eg at home, iPhone will use this before any other data connections. Basically don't worry iPhone will do the right thing!
