    Hi All,

I booked a weekend away for myself and my girlfriend to Milan. Just wondering if anyone on here has been there and would have any recommendations? Haven't booked any accomodation or anything yet...

I've got conflicting reports on Milan- some have told me it's great. Others are saying that there's not that much to see and that I would be better off staying in Bergamo- which is apparently a lot nicer- and getting the train in and out of Milan to see the sites.

Would anyone out there have any advice?

Well the Duomo is very impressive, but apart from that no major sights in Milan. Unless you are into high fashion, in which case you have 4 streets with only the most exclusive brands or football at the San Siro. I struggled to fill a weekend there (spent Sunday in the Science museum which is ok but hardly worth making the journey for).

I love Milan....Its such a lovely clean city....
Im posting a few links for ya to have a look at...It houses the last Supper by Di Vinci..you can also see his works and books in the science museum.

the Duomo is amazing, you can see the mountains the divide Italy and Europe and the rest of milan form the top. You can take the stairs or the lift...

the metro system is fairly simple to make out.. Good irish bars there, ran by a man form wexford..Póg mo thóin is the name of it if im not mistaken..

    Thanks for the help guys.

    Wow, looks great, lasair-

    Any hotels you would recommend?

On my second question- would you think I would be better off staying in Bergamo- have you been there? We have a pretty early flight on Sunday morning so I'm just keeping that in mind

I agree with lassair, I love Milan and think it's a great city. As mentioned the Duomo is great as is The Last Supper. Though if you want to see The Last Supper you have to book in advance. They only let a certain amount of people in at a time.
    I'd also recommend Castello Sforzesco.

Near the Duomo, is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele and also worth a wander is the Golden Triangle, where all the designer shops are. If nothing else it shows how the other half lives.

A good site for hotel reviews is http://www.tripadvisor.ie/

At good site for things to do and see around Milan: http://wikitravel.org/en/Milan

how about renting a car and driving to lake garda? very easy to get there by car, great motorway. we drove from linate which takes just over an hour so from bergamo would be less. then get the train to venice or milan if you wanted. if you stay in desenzano the train station is nearby most hotels and will take you to both locations. we had a fantastic hol on the lake late august and took in a day trip to venice (which we hated hehehe)

Cant seem to book the last supper though...

I've tried but the sites are confusing especially the official one

It doesn't seem to let you book anything online...

    Any ideas?

Rang the number on the website- only got a recording saying tickets are sold out for Sep and Oct.

Is this correct? I was reading on other sites that basically if you just go up on the day and ask them a few times- they'll eventually let you in....

Anyone any ideas? Any other site I could try?

    Hi there

I didn't like Milan very much - not a lot to do, and the city was filthy. I think I would stay in Bergamo if you can.
