    Hi,

Was wondering if anyone has used the flight simulator at shannon? Thinking about booking myself up but want to make sure it is worth the money. Any opinions?

Also is there one in dublin that is available to the public? I'm not sure if I heard that somewhere or not

I presume you mean Atlantic Airventure in Shannon? Their sims are not 'real' as such. Being fixed and I think the visuals are Microsoft Flight sim. They look fun and I must have a go myself. They are oriented at people, non pilots who want to have fun and experience flying an airliner.

Simtech on the other hand are oriented at pilot and airline and as Viewprofile says offer JOCs and MCCs. Their sim is full motion although a bit dated using analogue instruments. Whereas ironically Atlantic Airventure uses a modern 'glass' cockpit. However you can assume that Simtech are a bit more realistic.

One is for fun experiences and the other is for serious training. Simtech might let you have a go, you can always ask. But they are likely to be expensive.

hey wom 14, i have flown the sim at atlantic air ventures in shannon,it is a really good flight sim using a original boeing 737 cockpit frame, the overhead panels are original 2,the vdu and nav displays are all new to a boeing 737 800 series, the sim is not full motion it is a fixed sim using microsoft flightsimulator as graphics, jane was my pilot for the 2 hrs i went and she explains all the controls and displays in great detail, ull be a pro in no time. I also have been to manchester to virtual aviations A340 full motion simulator, this sim is the one the pros use to train on but it costs near 3 times more than atlantic sim because its full motion,Id say go for the hr at atlantic airventures,ULL HAVE A BALL,ENJOY.

Simtech offer a 'Have you got what it takes to fly a Airliner' Experience Flight. It's only €190 for 30 mins brief and 1 hr flight. You can also bring a friend and do it MCC (Multi Crew) - Captain and First Officer style.

It's pretty cheap in my opinion as it is a Full motion simulator, so it doesn't get much more real. PM me if you would like more details or a brochure.

Or have a look here on flying in ireland : http://www.flyinginirelandmagazine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4397

Moderators sorry If Im not allow to put that information up, feel free to remove if that's the case.

I don't recall them having that B737-800 sim when I was there (about a year ago). Is it new?

Oh sorry never mentioned. It's a 737-200. There is also a ATR 72 coming in the next few weeks.

    Hi

In Shannon it is a full functional 737-800 NG fixed base simulator.
    - Glass cockpit NG style
    - selectable to old EFIS style for training (737-200 style)
    - most parts are original because it is a real cockpit

    Hey Thomas,

How much it an hour? Be a good idea for prep for Ryanair interviews.

The 800 prices in the Uk are bloody huge! Have to rob a bank... :)

Friend of mine flew it at the show that was just on, said it's great. Fairly realistic. Is there any plans to get the motion in?

If it would goes the way to full motion the price would of course increase and that is not the idea.
The idea is as well is to give students the opportunity while they are waiting for their interview to keep their skills sharp and be ready for the day.
