The Bathroom Weighing Scales (Everyones best friend!)

I'm by no means a slave to my bathroom weighing scales but because I have to maintain a steady enough weight for medical reasons I do get on it occasionally just to see if my foody misdoings are catching up with me!

We have three digital weighing scales in the house and they all erratic. In the space of mere seconds just by getting on,off and on to the same scales again, the reading can differ by up to 5lbs. I've experimented with all of the 3 that we have and they are all the same.

Is there any brand or type that is reliable?

Sounds like you have very bad scales tbh. I use digital scales a LOT (I have to make weight for fighting, so I try to weigh myself across various scales and take an average). One thing that can make a difference is positioning on the floor believe it or not. You should use the exact same spot each time. Condensation can also make a difference, so consider keeping your scales outside the bathroom if you're getting erratic readings.

My own 20 euro lidl scales never varies by more than 200g between weighing. The scales itself may or may not be accurate, but all that I'm concerned about (usually) is whether my weight is on the way up or the way down and you have to keep an eye on the trend over a week or more for that.

Thanks for that Khannie. I would mainly be concerned with getting a constant reading than a completely accurate one too. I will watch out to see if Lidl are selling them again. My mum bought me one that checks water levels in the body as well as weight and it cost €80. Yet it's the most erratic one in the house.Typical!:o

Yes, you need a better scales. Mine does bodyfat readings and stuff like that, which can vary depending on whether it is morning or evening, but the actual weight is the same each time I use it to within a couple of grams.

Are you weighing on carpet by any chance? Mine varies all over the place on carpet but steadily on tiles.

If not, chuck em. Mine cost €15 and they work fine.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I would give up on the idea of weighing scales altogether if it wasn't important that I kept an eye on maintaining normal weight. It's very annoying to think you've lost or gained 5 lbs everytime you get up on them!

I always make sure only to use the scales on tiled floor and on the exact same spot. Seeing as no one else has the problem though and presuming that gravity does not become wildly inconsistant around the general area of my house I think I will just buy a new one. Obviously the cheaper ones are as good as the dearer ones. :)

I bought one last year for 7.99 (not digital) and it works perfect and my mam bought one of those digital ones that meatures % body fat and water 2 weeks ago for over 60 euro's. Well needless to say my weight on that differs within minutes on that. I think the old type ones are brilliant personally. (in reality i think they are all evil though Lol )

Salter are a well respected brand, argos have many salter scales.

I used a WW digital one which varied wildly depending on how wasted/charged the battery was.
