Yeah there was a bit of a crowd around it last night but there was never any queue to get drinks. Last year you could have had to queue for about 10 minutes

If you want to waste your money on rat piss go ahead.

The porterhouse has better service, a nicer atmosphere, less annoying clientelle and superior beverages.

Give me a pint of their finest over a can of bavaria any day.

And some **** on a guitar making you ears bleed. The service in the Pav is fine, I don't think I've ever had a problem in there.

I don't so much have a problem with the bar staff per se, but i do think the service is better in the porterhouse.

The students at the pav just don't know how to behave. You'd think they'd be grateful that they have been allowed into our fine institution and act accordingly. With some of the carry on i've seen you'd swear a trinity education meant nothing to them.
Numerous times I have had bits of my pint spill on the floor because of impatient imbeciles pushing their way forward to the bar.

And there's nothing worse than when you're trying to relax by the cricket pitch when some drunken biddy interrupts you with her screeching or some imbecile decides to be rowdy for no reason.
Not to mention the tackyness of a bar serving cans and the state of the toilets.

I used to think the pav was great. Now with three years of philosphopy and life experience under my belt i realise just how naive and ignorant i really was.

The worse thing about the Pav is definitely the student scum.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 368 ✭✭Lame Lantern

The Pav is useful because you can sit outside where it's reasonably quiet in order to pontificate on the important issues of the day as we bescarfed trinity students are wont to do, instead of sitting in the Porterhouse with your face in somebody's ear repeating "YEAH FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS IS PRETTY GOOD I GUESS" until it registers over the loud music. It's a relaxed, casual and you can harass the bar staff by playing Celebration by Cliff Richard on the dukebox over and over and over again. It's not a night out destination by any means, but it's great for what it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 484 ✭✭brownacid

Its as much a night out destination than anyother pub, the only times its really very busy is fridays for the first few weeks of term and at the end of the year.
And many a good night out has started in the pav, many a great night out started beacuse of the pav.

This is ridiculous... "Numerous times I have had bits of my pint spill on the floor"

Have you ever been to a pub/club before?... or maybe you think a great night out is sitting in the corner of the Porterhouse til 9 o'clock and going home to bed!
Lighten up a bit and if you really don't like the Pav then don't go there! Stick to the corner of the Porterhouse philosophizing to yourself where nobody can annoy you.
Why come on here moaning about it unless you're trying to rile people up!

I've been reporting other re-regs but I'm actually not sure about this one...the reference to "three years" confuses me. I'm almost sure Cantab.'s been hanging around longer. Plus, use of the word "biddies". Seems unlike him to use such colloquialisms. Unless he's finally learned to be slightly subtle about his re-regs...

Can't for the life of me remember his name but no, thankfully he's gone.

A friend of mine and himself had a sort of friendly rivalry I guess. It would start with the bar man shaking his can before handing it to him, and degrade into who could deliver the best sucker-punch. I'm all for a bit of fun, but that was a bit beyond even horse play.

ye but your opinion is pretty stupid rly. I was convinced you were being sarcastic until i read your next post. maybe when the pav is fully open we should all go and sit quietly on the cricket pitch and bask in the glory that is a trinity education. guffaw.
if you cant act like a student during college when can you?

Lucky for some. Anyone who knows me knows me I'm not that annoying and I've had a bit of bother there before. And for no reason at all. That's what irritated me.

Yeah, had two good friends in Trinity last year (both graduated now) and ended up in the Pav a lot and tbh it was a bit weird. Seemed fairly dodgy.

I think of it more as a kind of vending machine for beer than a bar. Like you go and get you 4 cans of Bav and sit on the steps, instead of getting a pint and finding a table of sitting at the bar. It's a bit wierd compared to other bars, but I think it does its job perfectly, giving people the opportunity to have a super cheap pint after they finish lectures and before they go out.

Also, Super_stoner is blatantly a troll, he has 10 posts, his name is super_stoner, and he's using phrases like "fine institution".

Meh, I was there last Wednesday. Although it didn't seem at its full capacity, there were a good few people in. Enough to make me have to sit outside on the very front steps anyway.
    Nothing seems terribly different, though.

Saw the completed Pav without the hoardings there on Friday, and it was nice. Way more places to sit, and the big nice Balcony's which I imagine will be great from about March onwards. Granted I wan't in college last year to see it then, but it's lovely when compared to a building site!
