Recently on a holiday to bodrum I noticed that the pier at shannon has new steel erected overhead it, is it getting a complete makeover. I know that the pre-clearence facility is open.

Is there new airbridges to be installed saw some sitting infront of the tower when I arrived back, thanks

I was about to post a thread about construction work at Shannon:D
But not regarding the terminal although I'm interested to know whats happening that theres so much scaffolding there,
But my question is does anyone know whats being done just to the left (as you look at the runway/airport) of the viewing point?

Well, the pier at Shannon dates from 1971 when the Current terminal first opened so it is high time for a complete makeover.

Does it need to be lengthened?

could this be related to the LCY-JFK route? I know it is refuelling at Shannon, but will passengers disembark and clear immigration there as well?

If so, I would imagine that BA would like an airbridge so their all business class passengers don't get wet.

I think the airbridges are the old ones from pier C at Dublin

    Yes

Taxiways and RWY 06/24 are being resurfaced.

No it's long enough. It's already been extended once. The Pier is very outdated though.

BA passengers will be clearing US customs and immigration in SNN. BA officials were in SNN a couple of weeks ago to inspect the facilites.

There's plenty airbridges already. The new ones are just replacing older ones.

    Correct!

Assuming LCY-Shannon-JFK... Are they picking up passengers in Shannon too??

    Its an A318.

No- no pax taken on at Shannon. Just disembark, clear CBP and Immigration, refuel and airborne again. No stop on the return leg. They did a test run a few weeks back, took just over 32 minutes for hte turnaround. (It only takes 18 or so pax)

how in the name of god are BA making money off that?

All J class configuration, aimed at high yielding business passengers.

I was gonna say how horrible it would be to be on an a318 for a transatlantic trip but business class makes sense :)

The BA A318 is configured to carry 32 passengers (all business class).

And beware the call signs 'Speedbird 1, 2, 3 and 4'. It will not be Concorde but the new A318 services. Half the price of Concorde at £3,000 return.

I've been using LCY quite a bit of late and I've been keeping an eye out for the A318s but I haven't seen them yet. I did see the new BA Embraer the other day though, G-LCYD. it looks very nice.
