Well one thing for sure is that those Eircom Netopias really get a sync no matter how poor the line.

An attenuation of 52 dB indicates your about 5KM away from your exchange and that your line simply can't handle the profile your on (I'm guessing your on the "gaming" profile of 7Mb down and 384K up). Your sync rate (downstream and upstream) should be 7124 / 384 kbps. And the noise margin of 2dB is terribly low, when this goes below 10 dB - it means your setup has problems.

Can you connect your modem to your main telephone point and remove everything else thats connected (including Sky, telephones, filters, monitored alarms, faxes etc) and post up your line statistics again.

PS: By those stats, your line should only be able to handle 3MB... maybe 4MB.

thanks for that, have tried all that already, nothing in any sockets, only broad band modem...... it was working perfectly at 5pm..... downloading at 670ish kb/sec...

i would go down to 3mb if i could get a business contention rate on the line, but business contention is only available on 7.6 mb and up connections.

i think i will convert the account to business account and try and get the business contention rate of i think its either 12:1 or 24:1

my sn margin is -8.0 now and going all over the place

Sounds like either a dodgy internal setup or router. Sync rate should definately not fluctuate regardless of contention (but it may slightly because your on too high a profile).

What devices have you got connected to your phone line in your house?

Well then it's plain and simple, you can't handle that speed. I advised to ring Eircom and drop to the lower option of 3MB because your paying for speeds right now that your never going to get on a stable connection.

im currently downloading at 500 kb/sec with no problems, and all is stable.
    syncing at 6176kb

    so it looks ok..

There's no need to drop to less than half the speed because the Signal Margin is hovering around 2 dB. Unless disconnects are a serious problem, just ask them to drop you to 5 mbps first. Also, wild fluctuations in the signal margin makes me think the modem itself is suspect.

Finally, any margin at 6dB or above should be stable. The line will only disconnect (in theory at least) when there's a noise spike that drives it to 0dB.
