Cheapest way to connect Wii through HDMI?

I want to connect my Wii up through my PC monitor. The only available ports are HDMI or DVI.

I've seen kits around the net but there over £100! It's apparently to do with the Wii signal being analog while HDMI is digital.

Is there a cheap way to do this, it's my only option.

Why not get a monitor with an analog input? My 6 year old Dell had s-video on it.

Otherwise you're stuck converting analog to digital, for which you'll need a converter box. Dunno where you specced one for over a hundred quid. You can pick one up on ebay for 34 euro:

As far as I'm aware that's not possible.
How could you upscale to HDMI with analog?

Even if it was possible the wii isn't rendering anything in HD anyway so there would be no point.
You can get composite cables for the wii that apparently up it to 720p but all you'll get is a slightly sharper picture. The graphics will be the same.

I'm stuck with the monitor I have, I got rid of my tv and now do everything through the PC.

I don't mind it not being true HD or anything just so long as I can get a picture through and sound I suppose.


My wii is sitting in a bag for the past few months as I can't play the thing any more.

Yes getting there, the only problem would be sound. The monitor has built in speakers but they're terrible, I'd prefer to plug into into the PC to take advantage of the 5.1. Although it's a minor gripe I usually turn down the sound on Nintendo games I find Nintendo music awful annoying.

Yeah you'd think Nintendo would have evolved past midi by now.

Anyway I went out and got a cheap Wii component cable here in Beijing for a few quid.
Guess I should have forked out for a more pricy one, doesn't work!
