OK. so I went out deer stalking with a friend of my fathers 2 weeks ago, we managed to shoot a young Sika stag, gutted him , skinned him when I got home, butchers by the monday and as I speak (2 weeks on)the stewing venison is at home in a slow cooker since this morning (with vegies, reduced wine, veg stock, browned meat beforehand).....so I reckon I should start thinking about getting into stalking. I am an owner of a .223 rifle and beretta shotgun and member of local club I pron would be looking to get rights on Cork Kerry border, live near enough to cork city. So can i ask from the experienced stalkers here was the best course of action from here maybe....
    1. Apply for Ncap
    2. Apply for license
    3. Choose calibre ( need alot of advice here)
    4. Once calibre choosen look for stalking gun budget of say 3-4K (all in scope and all)
    5. Get permission shooting rights
    6. practise
    7. get NCAP, maybe do foundation course
I am only guessing the above please correct me in any of the points...complete newbie

cant offer you much advise because ive just started stalking this season myself. im shooting a sako 75 hunter in 6.5x55.Got a docter 8x56 scope on it.ive shot 2 fallow bucks so far but i can promise you one thing, once head out on your first mornings stalk, shoot your first deer,Fallow buck in my case, you will be addicted!!!as for the hcap im nearly sure if you wiil be applying to shoot on coillte lands you will need to have that done. if you are gonna be shooting on private lands you might still get your hunting licence, but i think from next year on you have to pass the hcap to be granted the deer hunting licence.Hope ive helped a little, best of luck.
