Ok - so first defence of our cup in which we might get to see some of the youngsters...

I'm predicting a united win although I think it will be tough game.

Nice rest in midweek for our senior players before a tough weekend trip to Stoke.

    Here's the line-up i'm predicting:

    29. Kuszczak

    30. De Laet-- 23. J.Evans--6. Brown--20. Fabio
    14. Tosic--16. Carrick--28. Gibson--17. Nani---

    7. Owen----27. Macheda

    BENCH:

    40.Amos, 22. O'Shea, 19. Welbeck, 25. Valencia, 33. Hewson, 42. Eikrem, 41. King

I reckon Welbeck could get a run out from the start

I'd say Foster & Valencia & Scholes will start.

I have no idea what way Fergie is going to go.

Apparently King has been given a squad number, which would indicate that he will be on the bench at least.

I would also reckon that Nani and Tosic are likely to start, with Carrick a possible starter too given his lack of games.

I'd probably agree with Carroller16's side.

As for the bench. I would like to see the following:

Foster, O'Shea, Eikrem, Brady, Welbeck, King, Anderson.

Will certainly be interesting to see who plays. looking forward to it.

Hard to come up with a team here without having an idea of the match day squad. I hope its a mix of youth, and fringe players. I'm guessing non of our injuries are back for this i.e Rafael, or VDS?

    PIG
    -Neville---Brown--Evans--Fabio
    Carrick
    Gibson
    -Wellbeck
    Tosic
    Kiko
    Owen

Strongish bench of: Amos, O'Shea (to cover the entire back four), De Laet, Valenica, Nani, Scholes, King.

Hoping Wolves see this as a distraction from a relegation battle and keep a few of there players in reserve.

A lot of season ticket holders will be hoping for the Wolves win.

Josh King will wear Macheda's old number - No.41

Useless fact - Utd have gone out of the league cup at the 3rd round in 10 of the last 25 years while Wolves have only got past this round once in the last 12.

I'd say Mick McCarthy will take this game as a chance to get Ebanks-Blake, Michael Kightley and Kevin Foley match sharp, Stefan Maierhofer may well start as Doyle is still recovering from his hernia.

Thought that auto ticket thing for Cups was done away with.

It's optional but if you want to apply for away games then you need to be in.

    Head-to-head

    • This is the first League Cup meeting of these two clubs. Manchester United won their most recent clash by 3-0 in the FA Cup fourth round in January 2006.

    • Wolves last won - and scored - at Old Trafford in a top-flight game in February 1980.

    Manchester United

    • United have won their last five games in all competitions, and hold a 100% winning record in three matches at Old Trafford this season.

    • They have not been knocked out by a Premier League club since Chelsea won their semi-final tie in 2005.

    • Ryan Giggs is still looking for his 150th Manchester United goal, John O'Shea could make his 350th appearance for the club and Darron Gibson could face the club with whom he was on loan for most of 2007/08.

    Wolves

    • Wolves won the League Cup in 1974 and 1980 but since playing in the quarter-finals in 1996 they have only reached the fourth round once (2003/04).

    • It is 14 years since Wolves last eliminated a Premier League club; Coventry in the fourth round in November 1995.

    • Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and David Jones were both Manchester United trainees.

Excited about this game, should be a good test for the youngsters with enough steel in there to see us through hopefully.

strange that Tosic isn't getting a start.

United subs SUBS: Amos, Ferdinand, De Laet, Eikrem, Tosic, Valencia, King

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,837 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

don't know how off the bench i most want to come on.

Would love to see Eikrem get a run out, then Tosic and King. I have a feeling Valencia and Rio are more likely to play some part though.

Carrick must be asking himself why he's lining out in a midweek Carling Cup game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,594 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

cant watch the game but would like to see how Maeirhoff does. Giant of a man, tallest player in the premiership and a record of 1 game, 1 goal so far for wolves.

He's off... did he have to do that? Obviously did it on purpose, but it's only the Carling Cup. At least he was smart enough not to do it in the box:D

It was a young decision, if it was the second half in the 70th minute it might have been right, but it was a poor decision.

What was really at fault was Eans missing the initial header and Brown not clearing it when he had the chance. Fabio then got pushed into a very difficult decision, which to be honest, if he hadn't fouled him, it's likely it would have been one nil down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Tom65

Ah feck. I can see why he took the man, but Fabio and Macheda were the players I most wanted to see play tonight.

Nani's crossing has been really poor.

If Nani could cross we'd be at least 2-0 up by now.

Carrick is having a very lazy, ****e game. I didnt like the way he sauntered back there when Wolves had 3 on 2.

It's shocking really. Nani and Carrick are supposed to be trying to press for a spot in the first team, they should be playing their socks off.

On a plus point, Gibson is looking decent. Wish he would just impose himself more, he could easily be running the show here.
