99 Hyundai Coupe - clutch has gone

So sick of this car. Got completely ripped off when I bought it 2 years ago and it's fallen to pieces since.

Spent about €450 on it this year getting new tyres and all sorts changed for the NCT. Now it barely moves as the clutch has gone. Want to sell it but no one in their right mind would buy it from me as is so any idea how much it would cost to replace clutch? Am not sure whether I'd be better selling the thing as scrap rather than spending more on it.

    Any suggestions please?

What type of car is it?
Does it have a Hydraulic clutch or cable, if its cable
you might be able to get a bit of adjustment on it.
Clutch replacment might cost €300 to €400 to do depending on the garage.

Ehh, hyundai couple 1.6 petrol. That's about the height of my knowledge I'm afraid.

The garage has my car at the moment so waiting to hear back with a quote.

Tbh, ?450 for Tyres and bits isn't excessive. Cars do require constant maintaining to keep right, and clutches and things do wear out. As for how much it is to replace, shop around. Selling it for scrap wouldn't necessarily get you an awful lot, you may want to try the scrappage scheme when they eventually get it sorted out, but even at that, your new car will require maintaining.

Got the new tyres in newry for half the price of them down here so it was the other NCT stuff that set me back and think the garage took the mick. As it's not worth much anymore, am trying to limit anymore expenditure on it as am hoping to get rid of it.

Put it this way. If you car was working fine, would you be thinking about changing it anyway?

It's been giving me so much trouble that I don't feel too comfortable in it anymore and have a long enough commute on dual carriageways to work so am worried it'll break down on middle of the M50 someday and then I'll cause a big traffic jam for everyone else:eek:

What other trouble has it given bar nct stuff and tyres? It's worth more running and NCT'd than with a knackered clutch

    3 options:

    1) Keep going as you are now, fixing things as they go wrong, and doing maintainance when something wears out. - unsure of future costs

    2) Buy something newer with lower mileage

    3) Bring the car to a good mechanic, get some preventitive maintaince done, or at least get a quote for all the work the car needs to keep going for the forseeable futute (timing belt, shocks, suspension bushes, exhaust, condition of engine etc) If the qupte is more than the car is worth to you, then go with suggestion NO.2 above.

There are problems with the electrics and have gone back to my car on a number of occasions and it wouldn't start - it wasn't the battery as tried that and got the garage to fix to but never gave me an explanation. So haven't used the car alarm since I got it.

Also front left headlight keeps going, changed it 3 times already this year and when it happens, engine makes funny noises.

Thanks for the advice. Will see what the garage comes back with...
