In what is a big victory for the Emerald Warriors, Ireland's first gay rugby team, they beat Tallaght RFC 19 points to 10 in their match at the weekend just passed.

I'll bet Tallaght will not be pleased they were beaten by a bunch of gay guys. But is shows how much better the Emerald Warriors are getting and that not all of us gayboys are fairies.

    Go Warriors!!:pac::)

Fair play to the Warriors, they've come along way.

In saying that, tone down the post a bit maybe, gloating like that won't win you many friends.

While we all like to know how the various teams are getting on a little bit of diplomacy mightn't go amiss.

If someone had created a thread: "Dublin Straight team beats Dublin Gay team" every week the Warriors were beaten last year - things would have been a bit messy.

Also, I don't like threads slagging teams like Tallaght. We need Rugby to grow in new areas otherwise it just remains the D4 closed-shop stereotype and we all carry around those annoying Ross O'Carroll Kelly stereotypes with us.

We should all be getting behind the new Rugby teams, whether they be Warriors, North Meath, Tallaght or whoever.

So by all means give us the info, but don't be slagging the team you played.

Congrats to Emerald Warriors, but the lads are right, tone it down, no one likes a sore loser but sore winners are worse. I'm sure Tallaght don't like losing to any team.
And I don't think anyone here would call a bunch of rugby players fairies ;)

If I understand correctly the warriors are an open club, and anyone at all can play for them. The fact that they started as a gay club and that many gay people still play there is great for the sport and for irish rugby IMHO

But its not like all their players are midgets who have one arm and one leg playing against able bodied players, every victory does not need its own thread filled with gasps of wonder at the fact they beat someone!

Actually I was out drinking with a few of the lads who had played on Saturday for Tallaght and they didn't care that they had been beaten by a gay team so it seems the only ones worried about it are you.

So I hate to say it but in this case the only people discriminating against Emerald warriors for being gay are people like yourself as a lot of other teams will just see them as another team

As a warrior I would have to agree this thread is unnecessary, although Saturday is a milestone in the clubs progress there is absolutely no need for gloating about it or the attitude taken by the OP and it doesn't reflect the teams view of things either. We strive to play rugby on an equal footing and the players don't see themselves as a gay team, we are a rugby team who won a match against another Leinster branch team for the first time, sexuality does not enter into it and nor should it!

The team we beat is Tallaghts development side which have some good young players coming through in a non traditional rugby area, which is great to see and I along with I'm sure the rest of the team wish them well in the J5 league this season!

I play(ed) for the warriors, ruptured a tendon so out this season. We are proud of how we are coming along and developing but we're not on some crusade for the gays. We are a group of guys playing rugby and we offer to many people who may never have experienced what a great game it is a chance to learn the game and play. Tallaght are a great club and the team we were playing was their development team and all in all it was amazing to see so many players in an area that doesn't really have a history of rugby. Also the passion of the tallaght players was evident has there was quite a few flare ups of tempers during the game but nothing too serious.
I don't think there is any impression that gay people cannot be good at sport and I'm sure Tallaght hate losing to any team no matter who they are as when you are on that pitch your sexuality isn't really important it's how you play and your passion that comes through. Sure I think Tallaght B are in the same pool as the warriors in the Leinster league so there'll be two more games and I'm sure they'll be looking for revenge.

Totally agree, the last word. Thread closed.
