Folks thx for all ur help. I am almost at the end of the line on a decision that must be the hardest of my life. (that is no joke because I don't want to make the wrong one) Anyway I saw a few gyms this evening. Living half the time in Portmarnock and half in Swords I checked out Total Fitness, Clarehall. It looks grand and they gave me a offer of 450 euros but they said I have to take that by tomorrow evening. It is the most convenient. I checked out Northwood as well which to be honest had bodies everywhere and was not impressive despite its 199 euros offer as well. Most surprising was Ballymum Leisure Centre. It costs 299 euros but the gym was spacious and few people used it. The pool in Total Fitness looked way bigger being honest. I am weighing up my options..Has anyone experienced Ballymum and is 450 a reasonable price for Total Fitness?

For Total Fitness €450 is ok (costs me about €550 when I renew) I doubt very much they'll hold you to that deadline, sounds like a pressure sell to me.

Other than that I have never had any major gripes about TF Coolock and would recommend it.

truthfully unless you are there just for weights I would stay away from Ballymun (and even at this if you want to lift big their offical line is go somewhere else), yes it is spacious but a lot of the gym seems like it was done on the cheap. You can tell as some of the thread mills and other equipment are the cheaper Lifefitness equipment without things for checking heart rate etc. Also you may have seen a good few machines with LCD TV's on them but a good few of them don't work and the ones that do you get 1 channel on it and can't change it.

The floor of the weights room has been broke since I got there and still hasn't been fixed so I'm gathering at this point it will take a lawsuit to fix it. So chances are as other machines break they may use the excuse that there are a load of spare machines as it isn't that busy to just not fix them either.

Thanks guys. Joe the information on Ballymum was very informative. Thank you for taking your time to write about it. Nate thanks a mill re your information. I need to join a gym asap and it possibly is a pressure sell but I am putting enough pressure on myself to get back into it so I want to get it done this evening. 450 is ok. It works out at less then 10euros a week which if you work it out you would spend a lot more on alcohol etc on. I can use the pool any time and there are no restrictions as regards off peak or onpeak (Westwood is 75euros per month on peak. Crazy in this day and age)

As regards Northwood it was a mistake to go out of my way to visit it. Ben Dunne does not care if you wait 10mins for a machine. He and his staff don't care if you have difficulty with a machine or it is broke (I have been to Westwood trust me). They are interested in getting in the 200euros and get lost. I don't want to be stressed out waiting all evening for machines. It is not worth it unless you are tight for money. I think people will agree with me on that.
