I was thinking on moving to NTL for my tv, Broadband and phone. I was looking at the 10mb offer. I currently using BT. which is good, but now looking at costs. I use the BB to download some torrent like tv episodes and Xbox live. Can any one give some good advice? is the BB through NTL any good, I am reading some very negative post about NTL also I read on an other post they don't allow torrent

    Any advice would be welcome

In fairness this is a fairly recent problem. A friend of mine has been with them a while and his connection was pretty solid until this recent crap.

Im with them a couple of years now with 10mb connection. Never had a problem with them once. Saying that ive never had to call the support line but i know people who have and said there fairly unhelpful. So once you manage to get it installed and then have no problems ( finger crossed) and dont have to actually deal with anyone working there you should be fine :)

One month ago they had the ping problem and this one has been going on for a week.

Not a peep on their website.

If they let us know what was going it would be something.

And your right it is crap.

I am happy for you I really am you seem to be one of the few lucky ones.

Hope your enjoying your xbox online and you should not take it for granted because this is two nights now I can not use my PLaystation online.

Yes it's possible they are working on the network however would a small notice on their site be too much to ask for?

    Ranican, according to this poll:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=13656

77% of people are happy with UPC.

I'm sorry you are having issues, have you contacted UPC about it?

UPC has issues from time to time over the years (most ISP's do, look at Eircoms terrible recent DNS problems) and they have always sorted it.

Yes I know it was just frustration.

It's even higher if you remove the last option. "not with UPC but clicking poll options is fun!"

Oh I completely understand your frustration, UPC really needs to improve it's communications with it's customers and it's customer support.

I just wanted to add a little balance to the thread. People who are frustrated and angry tend to post a lot more then people who are quietly happy, so it can give an unfair impression.

I'll give a thumbs up to UPC. Ive had them since december of last year with minimal Issues. The odd connection Drop every so often. Granted this weekend was a bit iffy. But it seems to be fine now.

Is the equpment they install big and bulky? or is it just all through the cable?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,809 ✭✭✭Stokolan

Just through the cable. If your house is prewired its only a matter of telling them where you want the stuff. I got the modem put in a room upstairs and their box under the tv.

Their digital box is about the size of a dvd player and their modem is fairly small I suppose standard for a modem. I didnt get a wireless router as I already have a decent one.

I didnt like their wall socets tho as they come out about 1 inch off the wall. and look rather horrible.

i'm a 90-95% happy camper here too, left BT after many years of their BS and even though i'd been burned by both NTL and Chorus in the past i took the chance (20mbps is a big bribe!) and have't looked back. :)

have had the odd problem but it's usually fixed pretty quickly. i know there have been some issues recently that have some posters very upset, as well as a bit of a lack of response from UPC, but it's not affecting everyone.

Then you'll be unhappy with all the other BB providers also from time to time.
At least with UPC I get the satisfaction of not having to pay eircom line rental and having my phone over voip.

I have the 20mb Broadband and phone for a long time and never a problem. So much better then when I had eircom before hand.
