I emailed usit today to book my own flights to Canada. I asked them what I needed and what forms I'd have to fill in. Got an email back saying that my visa might be cancelled because I didnt book my flights in the 2 weeks after my work visa was approved. Can this happed, has anybody every heard of this?

Jasus USIT are some crowd to deal with.

Anyway we could get a nationwide petition together to just get them banned?!

I'm not sure about Canada but when certain countries issue visas there usually is a period where the flights must be booked within and also a time limit on when you must travel before. Try calling the Canadian embassy or consulate.

I think you can apply for the General working holiday programme through the high commission in England. Age limit is 30 on that and is 150 Canadian. That would help you avoid usit.

Did you get your visa from Usit? Just contact whoever you got your visa from first thing tomorrow. I haven't gotten a Canadian visa but I'm sure when you got yours you got a list of terms and conditions. Does it say anything about terms for cancelling it?

    Very helpful.
They've always been pretty good for me (never dealt with them for visas admittedly).

Edit: Actually I was reading about the Canadian Visas today for another reason. This is on one of their main pages.

"All participants who have been notified of their approval by 14 August 2009 must book and pay in full for their flights by the 14 August 2009. Applicants who are approved by the Canadian High Commission after that date must book in pay in full within 2 weeks of being notified of their approval."

So if your visa was approved after 14th August and more than two weeks ago it's not looking good.

I'm not sure how a nationwide petition or NCP would help anybody in this case when the terms are posted on the main page of the visa.

A shower of crooks and most would agree with that. Even just just go through a few threads on boards and you will see people constantly giving out about them. I just wish someone other than USIT had such power over most Visas being distributed in Ireland.

I think there could be a case for making a complaint to the National Consumer Agency for some of Usit's blatent bad practice.

For instance the threatening mail you get when you get your visa about booking flights with them.

The non-compliance over the phone by any agent to confirm whether you can book your flights or insurance through another source.

On the website it says you should not book your flights prior to getting your visa. Yet when I called to enquire about prices the agent was practically hopping down the phone trying to get me to book there and then even though I still hadn't received the visa. He was obviously hungry for his commission.

Please add any other issues you may have had. I would be willing to make an offical complaint if there was a group of others who felt Usit provided a poor service or abused their power in relation to the Canadian Visa's.
