I'm looking to buy a new car, can't pump anymore money into my piece of crap Golf.

I'd like to get a new shape focus but I only want to spend 6k plus the golf (99, no NCT, 95000m). I'm considering a 05 C4, but I don't know what they're like reliability wise, although Citroen is 7th here reliability index, ford is only 10th.

Has anybody got a C4, Chinese whispers say Citroen suck, but they also say VW are great, I have had nothing but problems with my Golf since day one. I had one for a rent-a-car in France for a week and loved it. Maybe someone could recommend something else? Looking for something cheap that I won't have to bust out the Haynes manual on every weekend.

    Thanks in advance boards :D

1.6 Focus and sell the Golf privately. The Focus would be pretty reliable, especially the older model. Dont think Citroen mechanicals are bad, more niggly electrical problems seem to get them. If you want something completely pain free though try look for a Corolla or a Mazda 3

Yep mazda 3 or corolla prob my first choice but they are just outside my budget, unless i sold the Golf, might stick it up for sale tonight. Drive belt tensioner went today, feel kind of guilty selling it privately because I don't want to pass on the heart ache, at least a dealer would put a bit of warranty on it though. I'd take 2k, suppose a buyer wouldn't be expecting much for that price.

I wouldnt think you'd get 2k for a 99 anything, may be wrong however.

Ford are very realiable. I had a few of them and never had any major problems. Maybe a bit heavy on the fuel side. Corollas are also very good and very fuel efficient. How about something like this: :)

I'd agree with this. I doubt your car's worth anything to the dealer.

Whatever they're giving you as a trade in allowance is essentially the discount in the new car they're selling you.
You should be able to negotiate a straight purchase for nearly identical money and hang on the Golf to sell privately.
