    Hi all

My parents want a new tv to replace a 3 year old Toshiba lcd where over a third of the screen has a very noticable dark patch compared to the rest of the screen.

They are thinking about a 40/42 inch tv and liked a Philips model (not sure which one though) they saw in Hardly Normals. Luckily they phoned me to ask if I thought it would be a good buy and I stopped them from buying it there as I thought they might get a better deal from you guys (I've previously spent over €2,500 on tv/amp/speakers from Richersounds and saved a small fortune in the process).

They are both nearing retirement age and thus wouldn't be too interested in internet features etc but they want the following features:

    Full 1080p
    40/42 inch screen
    MPEG4

Ambilight wouldn't work in their living room where the tv would be placed, i.e. in a corner and not against the wall, so this wouldn't be a must have feature. However, they would like a new/newish model tv (e.g. would the 8404 model be an option?).

    Any recommendations guys?.

    Thanks

    Hi Prosperous Dave

Well the 42PFL7404 sound like its right up your folks alley:)
Its the same TV as the 42PFL8404 but doesn't have the NET TV or Ambilight features and is yours for €810 (Boardies price) with a 3 year warranty.

    1080p - Yep
    MPEG4 - Yep
    42" screen size - yep
Excellent Image quality - absolutely YES!

The 8 Series would come in at €900 with 4 year warranty if they fancy the extra features listed above.

I'll say it again these TV's have proven to be a massive hit with Boardies - great features, Image quality at an excellent price - you cant go wrong!

I can add you to my reserve list for either set.

    Cheers for thinking about us!

    Cheers Ash.

I'll talk to them to see if they're on for buying this tv.

One question though (and I'd like to know this too!), by "net tv", do you mean streaming the likes of the bbc/itv/rte iPlayer or is there something else I haven't heard about? I presume you'd need a good internet connection for this to work?

Do you stock stands for this tv size and if so, how much (a wall bracket won't work in their living room).

    Thanks

    David
