VW Golf struggling to start

    Hi,

My girlfriend bought a 2000 VW Golf recently and it's struggling to start. The starting motor doesn't sound very healthy, and sometimes it takes a few efforts to successfully start the engine.

Just wondering what the potential causes could be? Could it be something as simple as the battery or spark plugs? Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

    Thanks,
    John

What model is it, 1.4 petrol?

    Doubt it's plugs.

When you say it doesn't sound healthy - do you mean it turns very slowly, or it makes an unusual noise?

Have you tried jump starting it?

It turns very slowly, sometimes barely at all.

It's a process of elimination. First step is to check the battery with a voltmeter and see what you get. It should read between 12 and 14 volts
