Ive been using a motorola H375 upto now for my iPhone and its pretty poor when Im in the car as i usually have to push it in my ear or shout loud for someone to hear me.

Can anyone recommend a good bluetooth headset (not car kit) that doesnt cost a fortune that I could get?

For those that are interested, I ended up ordering a Jawbone 2 headset. The reviews of it are excellent. It was selling for over €110 on their own website but picked it up for €50 brand new on ebay.

I don't know if I would recommend these, but these are the ones I have at the moment:

They come with a wee bluetooth dongle that you plug into the bottom of the iPod. With OS3 now, on the iPod Touch at least, there is bluetooth built in which removes the need for the dongle. However I've found that the headphones work better with the iPod touch when I have the dongle plugged in. When I don't use the dongle, the music cuts in and out at times and the controls on the headset don't seem to work. However when I use the dongle, these issues don't occur.

I haven't tried them out with my iPhone 3GS yet but I'll try them out tonight if I remember and let you know how I get on.

Basically they work very well (when I use the dongle and not the in-built bluetooth on the iPod Touch) and they're great for the gym. You've no worries about wires getting caught around machines and things and them decapitating yourself as you didn't realise the wire was caught when you tried to move away. :)
