    Howdy Folks,

Ive been trying for months to fix this without any luck.

Bit of background tho, a few months back i turned on my PS3 to play MGS, i was about to load the game when the standard "a system update is available" downloaded it and installed and everything was ok. PS3 turned off so i turned it back on, normal enough stuff.

Went to play MGS and..... its not there.

I phoned sony and went through all the diagnostics etc and they said that the drive would need to be replaced but they would need proof of purchase in order to validate the warrenty. I tried to use the Laser transaction on my 365 account but they said they needed a Recipt that clearly states that it was a PS3 purchased.

So i went to try get a receipt from who i bought it from and.... Zaavi had gone to the wall.... Bugger!

Ive tried fimware updates etc.. but nothing seems to work.

Anyone know if there is any places that fix PS3's etc? Or is there something that i should try ?

PS3 40gb, have checked Ebay but cant find the drive that is in mine.

According to Irish consumer law, you can expect your electronic device to operate correctly for up to 6 years [actual amount of time really decided by Cort of Law.]

You can reasonably tell Sony that your device is within warranty as ANY 40GB can only be 1.5 [I think] years old max so by definition, still in warranty.

A receipt isn't needed, as such, but it would speed up things.

You become unstuck as Zavvi are no more, so you can not get a receipt duplicate, hence hindering your quest with Sony. Also, your contract was with Zavvi, not Sony. Although, I believe Sony are still responsible.

I'm no lawyer and all above are my assumptions. You could push Sony and see where you get. Could take months or longer. Or you can fork our for a repair.

You could try a free alternative. If Sony think it's the hard drive, it may only be a soft problem. Perform a FULL [not quick] format. Depending on the HDD size, it would take a few hours so do it when you are going to bed. Make sure to back it up first, or at least export all your game saves etc.

If this doesn't resolve it, buy a cheap HDD. They are going nutz cheap these days. Hell, if you are close to me, I'll give you my 40GB spare [gratis].

EDIT : Wicklah :( I'm working in Clondalkin and living in Naas.
