The Slim has a larger HDD [120GB versus 80GB] and requires less power. The option to install another OS [Linux] has also been removed.

Other than the above, the Slim is the same.

Dose the slim have a card reader?
My 60gig standard ps3 has a card reader, but I've seen other versions without it.

Of course it doesn't. Card readers haven't been in a PS3 for a long time. Only launch editions 60GB [I'm only talking about Europe] had them, IIRC.

The card readers were removed after the 60GB version. The Slim does not have them either.

Dont think the slim has card readers.. Plus according to one chappy its quieter..

Personally though, when the ps2 went from fat to slim I think the build quality wasnt as good and it was more flimsy. I would imagine cutting the size means the PSU is external. Also I couldnt give a hoot if its more eco friendly, I mean its not going to make a difference to the world if PS3's use a lil more power. Try and stop a few more cows farting and you'd do more work for the eco system!!! ;)

I love the build, weight and fattnes of the original PS£, maybe Im alone but for me it takes up a whole shelf on my entertainments rack and thats cool!!

Thats interesting... Thats a fairly powerful PSU that the PS£ have, cool that they shrunk it so much!

There are a few guides on the net that show the insides. There is a HUGE fan inside. Nice and quite and dissipates heat quicker than.... Damn, can't think of anything funny this early in the morning....

In that same picture [linked above] you can see the internal PSU on far left side.

From my own personal experience, the slim is miles quieter than its chubby older brother. My old one broke (complete system failure according to Sony) so I got a refurb, fan sounded like a jet engine, so I grew tired of that and traded it for a slim.

    Delighted.

If it sounded like that it wasn't working correctly anyway. My old 60GB and the new phat 80GB are whisper quiet as it is.
