Footballer - Declan o'Sullivan has been consistently good throughout this year but Paul Galvin has been exceptional.
Young Footballer - I think Colm O Neill of Cork has been a real find.

Hurler - Most of the KK team as per usual but i reckon Tommy Walsh has beem outstanding.
Young Hurler - Noel mcGrath has been excellent but I also thought Maher (full back for Tipp) has been a revelation.

    Your opinions?

Handballer - Eoin Kennedy vs. Paul Brady?

I doubt Galvin will get it, he's tempermental - luckily no notebooks got in the way of his hand recently

In fairness, as much as i dislike Galvin he has been great this year. Has for the most part stayed out of trouble and carried Kerry when they needed it in bad times. Ill keep my feelings about Tommy Walsh to myself tho. A good few players gunning for hurler of the year but i wouldnt have him there.

Look, I know what you're getting at. He does have that cynical side to his game that annoys people and it's a pity. But there's no denying that he's a marvellous player, and he was superb in the All-Ireland final.

For the football award, Paul Galvin probably deserves it. He came back this year and not only kept his nose clean but was one of the few Kerry players who played consistently well all year, and had an excellent game again in the final. John Miskella was very good all year too, though his poor enough display in the final will probably rule him out.

    Footballer: Tom(más/my) O'Sullivan/Ó Sé/Walsh, Paul Galvin,Canty, Miskella
    With Tom O'Sullivan winning Out.

    Y Footballer: Colm O'Neill/ Kerrigan/M.Murphy/ Aiden O'Shea (Mayo)
    With Murphy winning out.

Hurler: Tommy Walsh/ The rest of the Killkenny Team/ Lar Corbett.
Tommy winning out... he needs no reason was superb like the rest of the Killkenny squad all year. A few blips (Galway... dirty) but magnificent all the same.

Y.Hurler: Noel McGrath. Fantastic prospect. Can't waith till next summer to see if he's progressed.

Tom Sullivan could get it, BUT i think Paul Galvin will get it. when push came to shove, he was there when needed most.

no better phrase to describe galvin ;)

Galvin by a mile for the main football award, young footballer much more difficult to call.

For the hurling Tommy is in kinda similar situation as Galvin.. media don't like phisical guys..

Think its going to be Noel Mc and Tommy Walsh.. They deserve it.

    Kirnsy- LOL what I thought!

In fairness to Tommy he scored 4 great point yesterday.
I can see him doing the double next season and winning the hurler and footballer of the year.
Footballer of the year - Galvin unquestionably
Young Footballer - I would give it to O'Neill just ahead of Michael Murphy
I would actually go with John Mullane for hurler of the year. Consistently good in every game I saw him play in
Maher the Tipp full back young player of the year.
    Sorry Kilkenny folk

It has to be Galvin. The most consistent Kerry player all season.

rather unfortunate choice of words when talking about paul Galvin!!

I think he deserves the title because he had such a dreadful year in 08 but showed courage and character to play wonderful football and leadership qualities this year - while managing to stay on the field!!

    FOTY - Paul Galvin
    YFOTY - Tommy Walsh

    HOTY - Tommy Walsh
    YHOTY - Noel McGrath

interesting. that would mean two years in a row for him. he was indeed excellent in the last two games however IMO he was a bit off form before that hence the dropping.

i think murphy of donegal has some talent but the lack of exposure in big matches this year for donegal will count against him.

Cannot see Tommy picking up Young Player of the Year for a second consecutive year.

Michael Murphy deserves it but because Donegal only reached the QF he more than likely wont get it

i dont think tommy walsh qualifies this year for some reason. somebody said that if you played more than 3 championship games the year before, you cant get. for example, gooch was only 21 in 2004 and didnt get it.

Not true sure Eoin Kelly won YHOTY twice and by the time he won he's second one he was a regular of 3 seasons

Galvin apparently 1/6 with the bookies for POTY.

Not a surprise really - has been immense all year.

Must've stopped watching in July so :) I'm a big fan of Mullane and would love to see him pick up another All-Star (robbed last year) but he shouldn't get near HOTY this year.
    FOTY - Paul Galvin
    YFOTY - Tommy Walsh

    HOTY - Tommy Walsh
    YHOTY - Noel McGrath
Pretty close to what I'd have, although I don't think Walsh will win YFOTY again (whether he's allowed or not). Probably a good opportunity to recognise Cork's season so I reckon Kerrigan.

YHOTY will be interesting - McGrath was superb but Padraic Maher has to have a serious shout. I think Maher probably had a better final which could swing it his way but it'll be close.

lads, paddy kelly from cork, what age is he? is he only 21? if he qualifies, its between him and mcgrath IMO..

one to get the all star and the other to get the YPOTY, you heard it here first! personally, i think Tadhg Kennelly should get 12, so that leaves Mcgrath for FF.

Hurling awards will go to John Mullane and Noel McGrath
Football Paul Galvin and Tommy Walsh.

    Thats how I read them.

Was very good in Munster, but didn't do much against Galway and was anonymous against Kilkenny. Worth an all star, but certainly not hurler of the year.

    Senior - Galvin and Walsh
    Young - Walsh and McGrath

Agreed and imo they nominated the wrong Waterford player, Brick Walsh was Waterfords best and most consistent player all season.

Tommy Walsh can't win YFOTY as it's not his first full c'ship year. The rules have changed since Eoin Kelly won YHOTY twice with Tipp.

Joe Canning nominated for YHOTY again though...

Of the 12 nominated for the 4 awards, my guess is Galvin and Walsh senior, McGrath young hurler and between Murphy / Colm O'Neill for young footballer.
Playing in more big games might swing it O'Neill's way.

    Paddy Kelly is 24
