Dublin reached six consecutive All Ireland finals from 74 to 79. Kerry did likewise this year. How do the teams contrast.

For me, I think Dublin were it not for coming up against the four-in-a-row Kerry team would have won more than three All Ireland's. Team of seventy six and seventy seven was extra special.
Maybe we Dubs tend to look at things with rose tinted glasses but what that team achieved in such a short amount of time was phenomenal. Thirty two years on and our win over Kerry in semi-final remains the stand out game for me.
Micheal O Hehir commentary of that game legendary.

To be honest, Kerry fans will vote Kerry. Dubs will vote Dubs. Should leave this one to the auld neutrals who were around for both so can make a proper judgement :D

Very interesting poll so far. Would have thought Dublin would be well up on this. Given that they twice beat Kerry in 76 and 77 and won in 74. IMO this Kerry team is good but never beat the best team in front of them ie Tyrone when presented with opportunity.

4 out of 6 is better than 3 out of 6 whatever way you look at it. Never mind the fact that most teams could beat anyone on a given day today. When I was a kid growing up in the Kingdom we hated the years that we would meet the Leinster team in the semi as it was thought as the only thing that would possibly prevent Kerry playing in September.

Yes say the 77 semi still gives you nightmares. As does the 78 final for us!

very difficult to compare teams like this especially since there is 25yrs between them, the standard of football has changed immensely in terms of skill, fitness and preparation.
Personally I think if the Dublin team from that era were around now and had the same preparation opportunities they'd wipe Kerry off the field. However the best team was the Kerry team of 78 - no questions, no queries, no quibbles.

can the current kerry team compare to the 77 to 86 era?

we have won 5 all irelands in this term, but played in more finals, in a shorter space of time, as opposed to 7 wins back then. however, i think its harder to win it now.....Kerry once won an all ireland by playing 3 games. this year was 8.

They played eight but to be fair, a lot of those teams were modest enough outfits. They were up a seriously good Dublin team in the seventies. Best Dublin team I have seen in last thirty years hands down
