They should expect letters and phone calls from very angry grannies. Where's Ofcom when you need it!

Unless they have edited it, like they do for airline versions.

How far in is that screenshot?

It received a PG rating from the MPAA back in day. Today it would be pushing a R rating for that screenshot alone.

Not sure at what point that occures, but the character of Jo-Beth Williams moves into the "Dustin Kramer" household I think and the son is staying over and sees the above but as he is only 6 doesn't get much out of the moment.

Is that the only bit of nudity in it? Sure that's nothing - RTÉ used to show the Carry On films on a Saturday afternoon - tits galore in those films.
Sure there's ads on tv more controversial than that.
Even '80s classics like 'Back to the Future' and 'The Goonies' which are now seen as children's movies are full of sexual references and have language in them that you wouldn't hear from a docker...

It happened at 13.48. It was totally unedited. Opps indeedy!

Oh no. They showed naked breasts. Society as know it will crumble.

I for one applaud RTÉ. Not everyone is an over sensitive moron.

Nothing to applaud RTE hadn't clue what they were showing (beyond the title) I imagine.

They thought it was a Michael Richards stand up routine

I am sure that someone there knew what it was before giving the thumbs up to broadcast.

JoBeth Williams's funny nude scene was optically darkened for the film's theatrical run, to avoid an R rating. The un-darkened version frequently appears in some television prints.

That was not the darkened version.

I still remember when I was young(probably 7/8 at the time) RTÉ showing All Quiet on the Western Front'(1979 version) at about 8 in the morning one Sunday.

Now I've no idea what rating that film is but it can't be PG......can it ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

Yep. It received the A rating in 1980 from the BBFC. All the video versions since (1986 and 2000) have been rated PG.

Either way, it's a great movie. Watched it yesterday but missed the boobees.
