Hey all, hope it's ok to ask this..
Whats the best way to go about getting an x-ray?
Am I better off to go to a GP and get a referral or to go up to the A+E in the hospital and get it sorted out there?
It's just where I come from (New Zealand) I can go to the emergency room and get sorted there for free and I know things costs here, so I was wondering what the cheapest way to go about it was..
    Thanks!

depends on whats wrong with you.

If you think you have broken something - best to head to ED. Morning time is best during the week because you can see an ANP (advanced nurse practitioner - fully qualified to deal with limb injuries as a doctor is and better at it than many junior doctors) and also before 11am when the flood from GP referrals arrive. ANPs work most weekends during the daytime in major hospitals.

    cost to attend is €100.

you can go to a private ED and be seen very quickly, but this costs a lot without private insurance.

GPs would either refer you to ED (you pay the GP fee - €60 normally - but then the ED charge is waived with a GP letter) immediately or arrange an outpatient xray which can take some time to be completed.

I think NZ is part of the bilateral agreement on health care as Oz is - but just double check this as extra charges may apply.

(of note - please do not discuss specifics of your medical condition on this thread as it is against the charter)
