Good Weights Gym - Drogheda

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good weights gym in Drogheda? I think I saw a new one advertised in a free paper a few weeks back which was pay-per-use. Just looking to do some weights to tone up so not looking for a pool or sauna etc.

Any recommendations?

I trained there when i lived in drogheda. ask them about buying a ten pass card. will cost you about 90 euro.

The new SFX gym has a great weights section and is owned by a current Bodybuilder. Its just down from the Lourdes beside the esso garage.

Thanks, I think that's the one I saw the ad for. It sounds familiar.

Dont know exactly what is cost now bit it was cheaper than everywhere else when I joined a few months ago.

I'm no doubt going to get laughed out of this thread, but there's Aura in rathmullen.

As far as gyms go, from what I understand, they're a very poor effort altogether. I haven't spent much time in any gyms really, but from pictures i've seen of other gyms, they're not even on the same level.

However, the good thing is, everytime i go up there, there's usually only about one person using their weights, so you'd most likely have access to all of their stuff anyway, without anyone hindering you or getting in your way.

They also do the pay as you go lark. It's a fiver at 'off-peak' times, and €9 at peak times. I've no idea what the off peak and peak times are though. But they also have a loyalty card thing, where, when you go to the gym 8 times, you get in two times free, plus you can use their pool/sauna/steam room/jacuzzi without having to pay in again.


I you're a really serious weight lifter, they're probably not worth even considering, as i say, they're poorly equipped, but in the plus side, their good point is there's always very few in the place (note, i only really go up early in the mornings, and the latest i really ever appear is about 2pm, so i cant comment on what its like in the evenings. Apparently between 6pm and 8pm it can be extremely busy, so if thats the time you'd plan to go, it'd probably be best to just ignore them altogether).

Was just browsing wen i came across this..to be honest this has to be the greatest bull sh*t ever.best weights gym????????? 1st of all was deadlifting here with fairly heavy weight 280K and was told to stop ,that weight was too heavy for me,(how dare they)that i was making too much noise,i was making too much mess with my chalk.UNREAL..The equipment was broke and wen i moved to use the same machine in different area was told to move away that this was'nt for "bodybuilders"(very unfair as i paid same membership as everyone else)..At one stage (which lasted at least 10 wks)20 KG WEIGHT PLATE WAS HOLDING UP THE SEATS ON 3 SEPERATE MACHINES). to be considered the best weights gym in drogheda really is laughable..i'm currently training at sfxgym and dont want to be seen as promoting this place(which i think is great) but wen i saw this tread it really got on my nerves....Happy training
