    Hi,
I want to do an ironman in 2010 and am looking for advice on where i can do one. I am aware there probably will only be one in Ireland (Eireman) - done the half there this year. Not sure if I want to do it here!
Can anyone point me to a definitive list in Europe and if you have done any your experience.
I am aware some of these are full already so I need to decide and get registered.
    Thanks Noel

2010 IMs - anyones that are halfway decent are sold out I think. Maybe the new German one is still taking registrations

I see ironman UK not open yet.
Anyone do this one in 2009?

    List of non-M-Dot events...

There are noises that IM UK is going to be moved, so maybe a few logistical issues there.
AFAIK, reg for IM UK 09 didn't open till Nov/Dec '08?

What apart from being up north!!

I did IM Nice last year which was a good event but very hot and this year I did the Eireman very long Duathlon.

What about Port Macquarie in Australia, it wouldn't be sold out yet, though you do have to do a qualifying half for it. Bussleton in WA in December is a stunning location, though some say the flatness of it can make it harder, especially if windy.

Busso is the fastest M-dot course there is. If I had the cash, and permission, thats where I would go.

A friend did this a few years ago, said it was a good race but very very cold starting off on the bike. Giving out soup I think in places he said.

I did IMUK a couple of years ago and when in Sherbourne. Have to say that it was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. The only thing about anything to do with endurance events in Northern Europe is the climate and it was damp and cold but then the same year alot of the IM and Challenge events suffered with the weather.

On choosing an IM, to me it is all about the build-up, spectator / faimly friendly and the ease of managing / travelling to it. For that reason Nice and Lanzarote always come back with favourable reports. I would certainly give UK the thumbs up ... but bring equipment for all weathers!! :-)

Hi Noel123 I was considering IMCH in 2011. But it seems it wasn't up to much this year , organisation wise.
    See Hunnymonsters account.

I'm considering IM Regensburg. 2010 will be its first year. Germans do most things well

    Hi Noel

    Heres my tuppence !!

France ...Superb, bike very tough but very manageable if you do the training (did mine in Slieve Blooms in Offaly) Run HOT HOT HOT!!! ...Would I do it again ?? YES YES YES ! Brilliant race.. Still avail I think..

UK...Did Sherbourne, great but good weather not a guarantee plus not there anymore and reports for 09 in Bolton were not encouraging

    Austria...Excellent...but FULL for 2010 !

Switzerland.. I am registered for 2010 for here. Friends did it this year and said it was excellent. Good news it is still available (got an email today actually saying it is still open) but it definitely will closed very soon...

    Hope that helps...

    GD

I'm all signed up for IM Lanzarote 2010. Anyone got any personal experience of the race or tips? It'll be my first IM distance so by all accounts it'll be a bit of a challenge!:D

Me and mate have signed up for Ironman 2010 in Switz, apparently after France (sold out) it is the most straightforward course (not going to use the word "easy" in same sentance as Ironman!!). Read about it in Triathlon magazine. Two bike laps with 1200m of climbing on it.

Would love to hear about these as well as i find it hard to have to fork out €400+ just to enter an IM-branded race...well, i guess it may be a good motivation to finish the race:)

Ironman Austria is a great location and a good course but I'm pretty sure its closed for 2010

For non-branded IM races, can't recommend Embrunman highly enough. Its held on August 15th as its a public (?) holiday so great support on the course. Swim is classic, starts in darkness and alps are a pinky colour as the sun comes up. Bike and run is a tad hilly as its the French Alps, can throw in a holiday beforehand or after on Napoleon route to keep everyone happy :-) Norseman is a good race but all things considered not sure if i'd recommend it. Swim is nice, bike would be similar to W200 and run is rolly for 26k then it goes up. Hard-ish to get to, point to point race and v expensive when ya get there.
