    Hi all,

Kilkenny half marathon on tomorrow - Sunday Sept 20th.

    Any one doing it?

Any idea if a big crowd is expected?

So that was the Kilkenny half marathon then. Pretty good set up I thought, thanks to all the marshalls for their great work, absolutley no thanks to the Kilkenny drivers who felt that they needed to pull out in front of oncoming runners consistently. Oh and also to the lady pushing a buggy who told me to F off when I asked (pretty politely) if she'd move out of the way, charming.
Anyway, rant over. I'd say the race will be quite good in a few years when kinks are ironed out. The course is fast, no doubt about that, got a PB, would have got a way better PB but for the heat which was stifling in the last 3 miles or so.
All in all, fair play to the organisers (pretty good job), the marshalls (very good job) and the spectators who turned out.
Does anyone know where or when the results will be up?
    Cheers

I ran this too, good event but the course was a bit higgeldy piggeldy for the last 4 miles through the town, especially sending us down that track in the park and come back up again! I hated that.
The 6 miles or so through the countryside was amazing though, lovely roads. Well marshalled event and a decent t shirt. Well done Kilkenny.

The last 4m were terrible, especially going down that track for the last 1.5m or so.
Rule of thumb i think all organisers of races should stick to.

Runners should never have to pass the finish line at at other time than to finish the bloody race...soul destroying.

My mind just was not in it for the last 10 mins after i passed it,mentally i was drained.

I agree about the finish loop - it was an awful choice for the end. Also - that really narrow bit just before that where there were spectators - a toddler who wasn't been watched by his parents got out in front of me - very narrowly avoided mowing him down.

This seemed a good race. I took some photos at around the 6 mile water station yesterday. They're up on racepix365, i haven't tagged them with race numbers yet - so you need to browse through. Anyone get results yet?

Is this the complete list for the 1/2 marathon...???

I finished in about 1:58ish and was by no means the last home. Have Colbert timing got a website or something? I can't seem to find one.

    Thanks!

This seemed a good race. I took some photos at around the 6 mile water station yesterday. They're up on racepix365, i haven't tagged them with race numbers yet - so you need to browse through. Anyone get results yet?

Thanks a mill for that. Found a pic of me. My 2nd 10k... rather badly run. But delighted to have a pic to mark the occasion, and had never come across this site before. Cheers

As one of the organisers of the Kilkenny Half Marathon and 10 kms, thank you all for giving us such honest comments on the events. It was the first time that this event was run in Kilkenny and a lot has been learnt to ensure that next year the kinks have been ironed out. Hopefully to any of you who were disappointed with our organisation, you will trust that we have taken everyones feedback (both positive and negative) seriously. Athletes opinions on what they like and dislike in races are invaluable. My email is colin@activeage.ie and I will gladly accept any comments, and reply to any questions. The results are on www.activeage.ie , and runireland are to post them too. Colin

Thanks for the race. Good day. Well done on the weather.

Observations for what they are worth... I've seen on other boards here where an event organiser offered a two priced event... to include/exclude the technical T.
To be honest... taking parking and the few expenses for the morning into account the best part of €50 for a novice to enter a race is a bit steep in these recessionary times & a very definite no when asked if there was a spare T wasn't very encouraging early in the morning. I feel short changed to be honest, even though I was fully aware of the policy before arriving on the morning! A tenner less seeing as we weren't getting the T would've been a small consolation for those of us who were unable to commit to pre-booking the event.

It may be time for event organisers to take the costs of these things into consideration to us lowly participants, many of whom have taken up sports such as running as they find they have more time on their hands due to lack of work.

Great medals btw. Something different for a change. & nice pot of muscle balm too in the goodie bag. Other than pricing while still NOT getting a T, it was a good day. Agree with previous poster who says it's tough passing the finish line way before reaching the finish. Was there ANY water at the finish line after the first few came in? I couldn't find any.

Sorry if the negatives appear to outweigh the positives. I feel that us Irish consumers need to stand up and be heard if they have issues with a service if our services are to improve. All in all, It was a very well run race. Credit where credit is due.

I thought the entry for the half was good value at €35. The T shirt as was said here is a technical t shirt and the goodie bag was fine too (a gel and a pot of muscle balm the highlights).

I paid €60! for Achill in July which was way too dear.

Re parking. I paid €4.80 to park beside the race start ina car park so no issues there, All in all a fair price.

Couldn't agree more. The diference in pricing for this and Achill really showed the Achill half up in my opinion. T shirt is of really good quality as opposed to the crap T's you get in many other half marathons. The value for money aspect couldn't be questioned for me (but then I did get a T unlike a previous poster).

I have to add my tuppence worth!! Overall I thought the Kilkenny half marathon was very good for a first event. Of course there are a few things which need to be reviewed but it sounds like the organisers are keen to make improvements which is good. I thought the tshirts were great with decent goodie bags and funky medals. I didn't think the price was bad for what you got. I did Achill in July and the Connemarathon last year and for double the price we didn't get a decent goodie bag or tshirt. So overall Kilkenny gets the thumbs up from me!

Hang on - Last year the Connemarathon provided a top notch Ron-Hill t-shirt, and instead of a goodie bag of flyers, hot food was provided.

+1, when you add it all up the connemarathon is good value.
