Just wondering what people are using/would recommend for playing IPOD on the car radio. I have a Touch and I'm thinking of getting an FM transmitter but not sure what make/model or even if there are any better/different options other than the transmitter?

    Any recommendations welcome

yup a car stereo with an aux in is the only way to go. having had an itrip i'd never go near one again, it's damn near impossible to get a good signal.

i recently got a stereo with bluetooth for handsfree on the iphone and wireless streaming of music which is the job. it actually has a usb as well so you can plug your ipod into it and acess your music through the radio controls which is pretty nifty.

I only have a crappy ford radio in my car. I've just checked and its got no AUX in cable. I was hoping for a quick and cheap option. Looks like the AUX in cable might set me back a few quid. I'll look into it. cheers lads

any other recommendations are still welcome

I would recommend the Connects2 range of auxillary in adpaters.
What make, model and year car do you drive?
Does the car radio have a CD system? If so you usually lose that functionality.
I got this for my Corolla '00, the car radio in it was a tape deck so the CD function wasn't lost as it wasn't there .

It slots in behind the tape deck in the corolla '00(not the head unit!) but generally behind the main car radio in other makes.
It simple to install and the lead out is a stereo jack to your ipod. If you are a little more expert you can take the jack part off the lead and solder a stereo socket in and fix the unit in the car. It keeps it nice and tidy. You connect with a double ended jack lead which fits in the socket and the mp3 player.
If you want pictures...pm me about it.
Sound is excellent!!! No hissing, no static no interference!

Which Ford, find the model number for the aux in adapter and then check ebay for it, found one far cheaper there, you will be looking at about €45 for one including shipping through ebay.
It's worth it over the FM transmitters.
Otherwise get a new car Radio with USB,Aux input or even bluetooth, Aldi and Lidl had them in a few months back depending on your budget.

I was forced to get a aux in due to the car radio and head unit set in Corolla's which is a majour pain!!

I recently bought a Belkin transmitter in Apple in Belfast. It was 50 quid (70 euro on the Irish Apple site, though I couldn't find it today).
It finds a frequency for you and you simply tune your radio to that. If there are problems with that frequency just press the button again for a new frequency.

The charger part bumped up the price. I think there is one that is transmitter-only.

There is an Apple shop in Airside in Swords and one in PC World Liffey Valley.

Thanks for the recommendations lads, was talking to a mate about this last night and he gave me a ILuv FM transmiiter that he didnt use anymore. Its not too bad so far so ill stick with that for a bit. If it gets too bad I'll look into the AUX in cable

I have a 2007VW Jetta and I recently purchased one of these boyo's…

Didn’'t get around to instaling it yet but hopefully in the next few weeks. It will play the ipod through the speakers but won't be like a FM transmitter as it's wired. A friend of mine has one and it's great. Anybody any experience installing one in a VW??
