It doesn't really matter what make it is when you're starting.
What's your budget? I'd say just go for a samick, or cheap epiphone.
Waltons in town have some nice ones.

    thanks..i'll b in there next week..i'll have a look...u reckon waltons the best ?

Not neccesarily the best, they're all really the same, but waltons has a really good range of nicly priced acoustics, and the staff are pretty sound. Have a look in musicmaker, musician inc., and perfect pitch too.
Tell the ppl working there your situation and they'll sort you out!
    Best of Luck!

i'd buy a cheap yamaha...around €150, they are really well made and sound nice and bright. perfect guitar for intermediate/beginner...i suggest you go soundgear on richmond street. the guy in there will do you a good deal. Id stear clear of waltons and perfect pitch. they'll give you any crap guitar as long as you have the cash.

I don't know about that. Most (if not all the guys working in waltons are happy enough to cater to your needs and give out good advice, all you have to do is ask. Don't really know about perfect pitch ppl but I can't imagine them being arseholes of that magnitude.

If you have a mate who plays take him along because its true that a lot of places just want your money,You dont have to be that experienced to know what to look out for, tuners and string action are very important for beginers.
There was a great place next to sun studio in crow st temple bar dont know if its still there though, but they had a fantastic selection and great value for money.
I would agree with the lads that the epiphone or the yamaha would be ideal for starting out.best of luck with it and you will have years of enjoyment playing.

never really had any dealings with the crowd in perfect pitch but I have found a lot of walton's staff to be the most obnoxious and unhelpful a*sholes going.

They're fairly decent and helpful in music maker. bought my first bass in there. A squire strat might be good for starting off or as someone said earlier epiphones are decent reasonably priced guitars.

goodwins on capel st and that other music shop on capel (can't remember the name, beside pantibar) are also fairly helpful. I was in there a little while ago pricing midi keyboards

    Hi Kube
I would say you're as well off going 2nd hand (plenbty for sale on adverts.ie). I also wouldn't be too keen on getting a semi acoustic 0 a lot of the amps in low-end guitars aren't great. Get an acoustic for now and If you get good enough to play in a band then splash out a bit mroe on a better quality semi acoustic. A lot of beginners guitars are hard to sell on btw. Look for an Epiphone or Yamaha, you've a better chance of moving one of them on later.

these look ok - i'm not selling these btw. Maybe try a cheeky offer on one of them. If they dont live nearby (I see you're 15 so you dont drive) see if they'd be ok with driving over to you to show it to you.

thanks for all the advice guys...I brought a friend in with me to town yesterday and he plays guitar a good bit, we saw this freshmans in Goodwins that was really nice. Would anyone recommend one of them or know anything about them. Epiphone and yamaha seem to be the most popular.

second hand is a good idea too..

Thanks again for all the help, it's great!

Freshmans will be fine for you kube, but remember to bargain ,they need you more than you need them.Whats the price?

I would seriously recommend going second hand. Guitars are ten a penny in the 2nd hand market. You will easily get a guitar for 30 euro if you shop around, and you might strike gold and get something quite good for quite cheap.

Especially around this time of year. Kids go off to college and the parents decide to clear out their room, during which they come across a guitar which they vaguely remember buying for little johnny 5 years ago that he played once and decided it hurt his fingers, so stopped. Its in a case, not even dust on it, and they forget they spent 300 quid 5 years ago on it.

Look around on adverts.ie and ebay, and you will get a bargain.
