keep hitting a brick wall!

    hey all, in feb i weighted 108kg, i lost loads weight due to exercise and a really good diet.

    In aug in weighted 71kg, due to crazy life at the mo, i am feeling down in the dumps and i keep eating crap food. for months i eat ONLY good food not over the last few weeks i keep eating crap and its making me feel even worse, This morn i weighted 80kg, In 4 weeks i put on 9kg, It makes me feel awful.

    This is the biggest challenge i have faced yet, does anyone have tips?

    I am feeling hard to get motivated for exercise and eating right.

    Like most people you eat certain foods when you feel a certain way. you've to break that mental link. I know it's tough for me too, but that's what we gotta aim for, that we don't just grab a handful of sweets every time we're down (or for that matter a dozen pints)

    yeah i keep telling myself that, tho i kinda happy that this did not happen months ago, i have lost loads of weight and i know i can loose it again. I just need some get up and go

    I think the best way to approach this is to do a complete re-start so you can rediscover the initial enthusiasm of your eating plan.

    Pick a date to start when you know you'll be free from temptation for at least a few days, so no social obligations or situations where you won't be able to make your own food.

    Do a nice big healthy food shop to fill your house with healthy things you like and the night before clear out the cupboards of anything that is a trigger food for you, for me it's anything containing wheat, but everybody's different. If you can't stand to throw the food out or give it away put it in a non-kitchen cupboard so it won't tempt you.

    Also might be worth reflecting on why the diet lost steam in the first place, I know that when you're in the healthy range but you have a little more to lose then motivating yourself can be very hard as you don't have a massive incentive staring at you in the mirror anymore. Also I find that when I stop making an effort to keep my food varied and interesting then I start to feel deprived and my resolve weakens.

    I am in same boat.... so depressed over it. I did a big healthy food shop last night but this morning i ate half a packet of my housemates biscuits....
    you lot got any more motivating tips?

    I think you need to get to the root of why you ate those biscuits. What happened beforehand? How can you prevent that sequence of thoughts and actions happening again?

    The hardest part of any eating plan is being conscious and aware of your habits, especially the bad ones, if you know you're going to be in a situation where you're going to be tempted, have a diet survival strategy prepared in advance, the most important being don't let yourself get really hungry.

    I also find it helpful to have a list of stakes, as in why are you losing weight in the first place.

    Could be to look good for an event of a health goal. Write down five or six of these goals and stick them to your fridge or somewhere where you'll be reminded every day.

    we all have bad days, and if you were able to lose weight before, then you can do it again - just do what worked before ... the thing about biscuits and the likes, it is good to be able to have one or two ocasionally - can you do this? a lot of people cant and once they have even the slightest taste of bad food it turns into a binge .. you need to figure out if this is the case in your own situation and if so then you probably need to completely cut out all the bad stuff, dont even have it as a treat if its going to jeopardise your goals ..

    OH no.... I have realised (through talking to an old counsellor friend of mine) that i need to have balance and begin to accept myself... I used to deny deny deny and i think my recent bingin has been because i've been so strict.... at the same time even when i am doing great i cant have junky food in the house because I will eat it.

    I used to enjoy an occasional treat- eating out or having some chocolate (after weeks of being good) and i think maybe being strict but trying to balance with the odd fortnightly treat might help? anyone else try that?

    would i be better off treating myself to a spa day or shopping spree?? i just HATE the thought of never again eating chocolate or feeling like a normal person.........
