I was also at a function in RTE some time ago at which she was a host/speaker. She has a terrific and very mischievous sense of humour.

Easily the best nesreader in RTE. Sharon should listen to Anne's delivery and learn from it.

She's useless. Can only read the script, and even doing that she seems robotic. Might as well use a speech machine in her place- it would be cheaper.

Anne Doyle IMO has no sense of what is history in the making.She could make the outbreak of WW3 sound unimportant.She gives a sense of I'm only reading this because it,s My job.

It is not just her though,that attitude seems to permeate the entire RTE newsroom with one exception i.e Brian Dobson(He at least seems to know when to be dramatic,and for those who say news is NOT drama i would say how do 24/7 news channels survive?)

Is there any truth to the rumour I heard that Anne was particularly popular amoung the gay community and if so - how does that work??

For me the best and lovliest (I can't say sexiest as she is married), is the wonderful Siun Nic Gearailt. She dress fantastically, looks gorgeous and deliver the news great in a perfect accent. Is better possible.

I agree! She just reads the script, quite boringly IMO, and if anything serious were to happen to that she'd be in big trouble. I'm not saying she shouldn't read the script, of course she has to, she can't make it up as she goes along. But there's very little if any spontaneity there- it seems like she doesn't know enough about what she's talking about to deliver it. When asking question off reporters she always sounds the same- raises the pitch of her voice at the beginning of her question, lowers it at the end, doesn't try very hard to actually look like she is engaging with it at all. Makes it very obvious that it wasn't her, but some editor in another room that framed the question. I'd much prefer Eileen Dunne, she manages to sound a bit more authorative/ up to date with what she's on about.

I don't think Ní Bheoláin is that robotic, but she always gives me the impression that she's trying very hard to sound like she has researched the news topic, which she probably has. It's like she's trying to prove herself, especially since Dobbo is her co-anchor/ superior.

Another thing that annoys me about her is the way she just stares straight ahead of her,into space, at the beginning of the news before she turns round to do her side camera piece before the main story. Most of the other presenters at least pretend they're doing something.... looking at the laptop, or notes for example. And she never seems to know whether to look at the screen, or the camera when asking questions off reporters- as can be seen very clearly with David Murphy and then David Davin Power here: http://www.rte.ie/news/2009/0916/9news_av.html?2611381,null,230 . Another thing which annoys me is the way she drops t's at the end of words, like saying 'Good nigh', and 'how much a gamble is tha?'. I've nothing personal against her, just don't like her style of newsreading!

EDIT: and I don't like the way she says '77 billions' !

Well it wouldn't make me start watching TV3 news,but whatever floats your boat!;) At least it would remove her from RTE1... she could be replaced by someone like Aenghus MacGrianna :eek:!
