Government paying people to emigrate?

I've got a query, bit of a mad one maybe but here goes.. Is it true that the government are paying people a lump sum to sign off the dole and go away? If so what do I have to do to get my hands on this cash? Sounds like a no brainer if true and would really help to get out of this country!

I certainly haven't heard anything about this. Can't imagine it's true or half the country would be gone surely! I know I would!

Havent heard of it. TBH it sounds ab it outrageous. Everyone without any commitments (probably people with also!!) would be jumping on the band wagon.

You can't just leave Ireland anyway - you have to be let in somewhere else first.

It is possible though to transfer a JB payment to another EU country for up to 13 weeks.

I know in Spain they are offering a lump sum to immigrants to return home but I haven't heard of anything like that in Ireland.

It is partially true, but for citizens from other countries to relocate 'home' if they've lost their jobs or have no support and to prevent them becoming a 'burden' on the state..

I'm not sure how this works in the context of Erasmus.

You can continue to receive a maintenance grant while studying on Erasmus and you can also get the Back to Education Allowance to study on undergraduate courses in the EU. As far as I know you remain a student of your home institution while studying on Erasmus.

Another poster may know - otherwise leave it with me and I'll try to find out.

I gather you can continue to receive the Back to Education Allowance while you're on an Erasmus course as long as the course is an integral and compulsory part of your main course. You'd need a letter from the college about this.
