Subject to interest, we are looking at once again running a poker school during the month of October in the Fitzwilliam Card Club. This 4-week course will offer beginners & intermediate poker players a firm grounding in the strategies essential to successful tournament play.

Courses will run on Wednesday nights from 7th October starting at 7.30pm. Each class will be 60 minutes duration – this will be followed by entry into the regular Wednesday night tournament where players will get the chance to test their newly-acquired skills.

The cost of the course is €100 and this will include the entry fee into the €20 + €5 Re-buy Wednesday night tournament for the 4 Wednesdays in October, so effectively the Poker School is free.

Those interested should email info@fitzwilliamcardclub.com with your name, phone number and email address.

Seems a reasonable proposition to me. Won't be taking part though.

Amazing the way posters knock anything & everything.

I've had my gripes etc. with the Fitzwilliam (& I believe they acted on them as well ;)) but why knock an excellent idea like this. It's great to see a club / casino trying to promote their business & trying to attract new players to the game.

Do the knockers here realise the turnover of poker players. I'd imagine, without having facts, it is huge. I know of hundreds of players who were very regular players five years ago who never play live now.

New blood / customers have to be attracted to every kind of business & imo this is an excellent way to try to encourage new players to venture into the club poker scene.

Clubs are imo also losing out big time on a huge amount of players who only play in pubs. These players need to be captured for the club scene if we are to progress into the future.

It was run last March for the first time - nearly all participants were beginners then so the course covered the basics onwards. Three of the participants finished in the money on the Wednesday tournament afterwards with one player winning the Tournament that month.

At what level the course is pitched on this occasion will depend on those who are signing up. One of our experienced dealers will be running it.

how about having an advanced course that focuses on 30bb and less play, bubble play, icm, ect on a night with one of the bigger freezeout tournaments.
