    Not Your Ornery Onager

Here ya go - Honest John. He has a few things to say about the 1.4. No experience myself, but I'd be thinking the 1.4 might be a bit underpowered for the Octavia?

Great car; on my third 1.4 Octi. Mrs Express even prefers driving it to her Mk4 Golf. No ball of fire but cheap to run, very spacious and ultra-reliable.

Mines for sale (04 model (same bodyshape as 02- with full history and air con). Doing very big miles lately and changing to a diesel. Another Octavia.

    PM me if you're interested.

My sister has one about 3 months. Fine car. Not quick, but not too lethargic, just accept its limitations. Good value!

I'd prob be inclined to go for a 1.6 though for the sake of it, or ideally a 1.9TDi. It is hard to get a good TDI though for handy money.

The 1.4 does about 40mpg, a bit more with a light foot.

I'd second the 1.9TDi. The fuel efficiency is fantastic. But moreover the engine is extremely reliable. My father has one as a taxi for a few years now. It has 280,000 miles up last week and it's still going strong.
