The terms 'seat leon 1.4' and 'no poke' go hand in hand for me

Owning one I would say that the correct term is "even less poke than normal" :)

I'd guess it's most likely a coil gone, they tend to be a problem, at least on the older ones.

a car that size shouldnt be allowed to have a 1.4 engine. I had a focus 1.4 given to me as a company car. **** me you had to drop gears all over the shop to get anywhere. You'd be ****tin yourself tryin to pass a truck or somethin. They need at least a 1.6 in my opinion.
I now a drive a 2ltr mazda 6. Now thats the right level of poke.

I disagree. My sister has a 1.4 Octavia. it is no rocket, and I wouldn't fancy overtaking too many 40ft trucks with it, but it is perfectly adequate for most things people do.

Off topic no? A 2L mazda wouldn't pull your socks off either,it's all relative.

OP the car is in limp mode sounds like it could be a coil problem, does the engine idle smoothly? does it hunt or sound like it's missing? it could be a MAF problem either.

Original 1.4 Focus was very under-performing, at only 70bhp, or 50bhp per litre:( Probably the most under-performing 1.4 of its time. Newer ones are actually not much better at 80bhp.

too underpowered for my liking. A personal thing though. I'm no boy racer I just dont feel you should have to put your foot to the floor tryin to move.
Thats my experience with the focus/golf/leon type size 1.4 ltr car.
Theyre not light cars and need a bit of extra kick. I think our rediculous car tax rules have a big impact as to why people buy the 1.4. That and they think it'll be easier on petrol which its not as the car is underpowered.

I have a 2007 Seat Leon 1.6. A few times since I had it, the EPC light has come on and at the same time, engine power goes (very slow accelerating). Starting car again fixed the issue for me. If you have warning lights on, I would take it to a dealer where they can diagnose whats causing the warning lights.

doesnt knock your socks off absolutely agree but it has enough poke when you need it.
I wouldnt buy it with a smaller engine.

relative would be a 1.6 engine for a passat by the way which again is underpowered.
dont think Mazda 6 is even made with a 1.6 I could be wrong. If they do it'd be useless imo

this happened in my bros 2003 vectra and when he re started the car it went away for a few miles, it ended up being a vacum hose which had a rip in it.

I agree the 1.6 engine in a pasat is a joke,i had one as a courtesy car once scarily under powered.

    If there is a miss in the vehicle, which is highly likely, you have poss one of three things wrong;
    1) cracked spark plug-replace plug
    2) faulty ignition coil-replace coil
    3) faulty fuel injector-replace injector.

All items should be checked, best done by dealer(with diag tool) as they will get to the bottom of the problem quickly, thus not charging a kings ransom for labour / diagnosis.

Well obvioulsy if the lights are on there is something up. Try upplug the MAF and see if it sorts it.

I'm amazed how did thread went COMPLETELY off-topic from the getgo.

Anyway, to me it's sounds like a MAF problem. Does the car run fine after restarting the ignition, or is the car slow all the time.

If it's slow, i would suggest not driving it until you get it fixed. A simple diagnostic should show the fault. Also, the car is under it's 3 year warrenty, contacting the main dealer would be a good choice and that what i would do.

Does sound like MAF problem. If car is under warranty still call the dealer. Even if its just out of the 2 years you might be lucky and get it under goodwill. I had my 1.6 do something like this about a year ago and turning it off and restarting it cured it. Never happened since and there wasn't any fault codes
