Just another question, should probably open a new thread, but what do people do if they have a car in cork but don't have any parking in their house? I'm living in highfield avenue ( just at the corner of ucc) and am looking for somewhere to park my car during the week for the term, any suggestions?

    Thanks

Park and ride was going all summer, it will probably be getting back to the same service as before the holidays now, what with the freshers registration and orientation.
Sorry Snesfan, but i don't know what the deal is with parking outside the house. Try asking the accomadation office people. Failing that try the city council and they might be able to help you out.

For a while what I did was leave my car in the park and walk near Dennehys Cross during the day and near my house at night. There are also free parking spaces just opposite the park and walk. It's only a temporary solution, I just did it before I got my residents parking permit. But it could keep you going until you find something more permanent.

I'd suggest you find somewhere else to live, it will be an absolute nightmare and you could get clamped.

Resident parking permits aren't that easy to get. The car will need to be taxed with Cork County/city council, you'll need household bills in your name for proof of address, you need to have your name on the election register in Cork....

It would probably be easier for you to live in an estate in Bishopstown with parking and get the bus to college.

Can't live somewhere else, I guess I'm just going to have to organise parking permit

If you want a residents parking disc, this site tells you everything you need to know http://www.corkcitycouncil.com/roads/trafficdivision/residentparkingpermits/#d.en.2428

It will take a while to get all the stuff though, but once you have all the stuff you can go to City Hall and they give you a receipt which you can use right away
