Not sure if I should be posting this here or not. To cut long story short. 4 weeks ago, somebody reversed into me and drove away, there was cctv cameras there, so I assume it picked up everything. Probleam is gardai still havent investiaged it. I spoke to them today and they said they checked it last week, but I dont believe them for a variety of reasons. Does it always take the Gardai this long to investiage something like this, as have a pain in my face ringing them up and going in to them to get an update.

They took 9 weeks to get off their arses and ask for CCTV footage on the M50 and M1 after me and my wife were left in our upside down jeep on the hard shoulder of the M50 after becoming the victims of a hit and run....on August bank holiday weekend....

It had been overwritten after 4 weeks. That's normal procedure, even for a digital recording system, let alone tape. If you're chasing them for longer than that, you're likely wasting your time at this stage anyway.

That said, a lot of CCTV footage is absolutely worthless because of the poor quality of image, so maybe they did check it and hit a brick wall. Either way, you're kind of fighting a losing battle I suspect.

Might be worth claiming on your own insurance at this stage as I doubt this will work out the way you and most reasonable folks would expect.....

    Good luck,

    Gil

My insurance wont cover it, so thats why I have been constantly on to them. But I would be amazed that cctv didnt pick up the reg, as there are a few cameras there, and the car in question drove towards it. I have decided to go ahead and get it fixed myself as I who knows how long I will be waiting, but I will still keep on their back. Somebody advised me to go towards the garda ombundsman, but I dont believe that is the way to go, or if it is even a matter for them.

I'm still waiting for them to get back to me 19 months after a hit and run that left my car a write off. Don't get your hopes up that they will do anything.

Unless someone is injured or killed, the only thing that concerns the guards is if you tax & insurance is up to date & that your under the limit.

Once they meet their monthly quota in that respect ( & their daily quota of fast food), they don't give a toss.

or if you are doing 7km over the speed limit.....

You can always go get the cctv images yourself and the members will stop stuffing their faces and come over once you have their evidence for them !

I did it for my ma in Merchants road in Galway and the car park were very sound , took about 10 mins to get a good photo out of the system altogether .

+1, this would be the route I would follow at this stage. Have you spoken the camera owners?
