I'm finding it gets really slow particularly afournd 7 in the evening. I've got the fastest connection they can give me and I'm in D15. Any ideas on options. I can't get NTL.

I usually work upstairs with my laptop and the wireless router is downstairs. Maybe I should get a better router? Or is there a booster I can get to improve things?

Don't waste your money on a new router, you cant do anything about it. Eircom's fault but they'll do nothing.

Ring Eircom say you want to raise an official complaint. Contact comreg and give them the the complaint ID. Eircom have 10 days to issue a repsonse on the issue or Comreg will intercede. They can't do a lot but the more issues raised to this level the more serious Eircom will take the problem.

If you do a ping to boards.ie during the evening what are your results?

I have the same slow speeds problem , an eircom technician contacted me and said there is nothing they can do about it , and an eircom official rang me too and said they are refunding me 2 months of broadband. I cancelled my broadband and now i am thinking about going with wireless broadband in my area , munster broadband.
Its a fu€king joke , we are getting ripped off left , right and center in this country!

It's shockingly poor of late. I'm in Mullingar on 3Mb and every evening the
exchange congests as Eircom must've overloaded it and I get less than 1Mb,
closer to .5Mb infact, with upwards of 500Ms Pings and a practically non-existant upload speed.

It makes PS3 online gaming impossible. Sure I can't even watch a 30 second low quality youtube video without it stopping 3 or 4 times to buffer.

I made an online complaint asking for my interleaving to be turned off and for them to send out an engineer to the exchange. That was 2 days ago.

I reckon one of those formal complaints as recommended by Xcellor above is in order.

    Pings from the router:
    Pinging www.boards.ie
    Received reply
    Received reply
    Received reply
    Received reply
Success rate is 100 percent (4/4)
    round-trip min/avg/max = 400/415/430 msec

    What a joke. :(

It takes less than 15 minutes to log a complaint with Eircom then call Comreg. Eircom may not fix the issue but Comreg will recommend Eircom to release you from the contract so at least you have more options open then.

It seems like a lot of people are affected by this. Eircom have this country by the balls and there is no-one capable of doing anything about it. As a consumer who needs real broadband outside of the cities there are no alternatives. Regardless of what reseller you go for they all use the same sh*t network.

Please everyone with this issue regardless of your ISP report it. Unless people collectively start saying they won't put up with this sh*te nothing will change.

Well meself and the wife have made the decision to tell Eircom where to shove it.
We're gonna switch over to Digiweb Metro. But we're gonna demand a refund on the last 2 months and kick up as much fuss as possible. We're
well beyond a 12 month contract with them so we can cancel them at will.

I don't mind the download cap with Metro as we only use the broadband for regular surfing and gaming. If I want to download something fairly large, I have work Broadband for that !! :D

Hi Madman08 - I have heard from a reliable source that eircom is planning an upgrade on the Mullingar aggregation site next week that will solve the bad latency that customers in that region are having. Check the service this time next week - I bet you it will be much better.

This may be the same issue as with other posters. I know that they have similar (though not so bad) issues around Portlaoise and Waterford - both of which are due to be upgraded within the next few weeks also.

I understand that what has happened is that they have seen a big increase in usage since the end of the summer and their network has not been upgraded fast enough to be ready for that.

sometimes my eircom broadband is slow as well, but all in all its ok.

    however,

when i click into show all connections i have three different ones, where as before i only had the two.

before i only had the old eircom dial-up, (which is listed under Dial-up) before i changed to broadband. so the dial-up is showing up as disconnected, as it should be.

then there is the one i'm using, LAN (which is listed under LAN or High Speed Internet) local area connection for the broadband.

but the third one which i've only noticed in the last month or so is listed under broadband and is a WAN miniport (PPPOE)

i don't know what the third one means, or where it came from.

Xcellor - not denying you are having crap service - but a small note on the Speedtest.net result - if you use their default server in Limerick the results might be unreliable as they use a small wireless provider there to host the test server. You would be better off testing via the Dublin server which is hosted by Diginet off the INEX.

Are you in the town or surrounding village?

My BB has improved greatly over the last couple of weeks. Pings are around 30 through day, rising to 40 in evenings.

Are you regularly experiencing slow downs like above? Have you escalated to an official complaint.

I'm in the town. It's ok at this time can reach 6 mb, but after 5pm until probably 12 am when you need it most it's not worth a feck, useless. It's like it every day now. I'm with BT ( but it's Eircom's equipment). I rang BT and they are passing the buck. They are blaming Eircom. They say the exchange in Longford isn't able for the internet traffic in the evenings. In this day and age it's unnaceptable. It's all about money, get as many customers as you can regardless if the equipment is able for it or not.

I think i might see about Crossans broadband and tell BT go jump...

Currently its taking me a day or more to download a file of say 800mb in size.
    At night.

Is there any good tutorials on how to make this rubbish BBand any faster?

Having the same issues with the Monaghan exchange. With bt and they're blaming eircom too. Funny thing is that this only started happening in the last few weeks after a 5hr outage. I think they must have done some ****e to the exchange themselves.

Has been like this for weeks. We sometimes get 5Mb off-peak, but it's almost always below 1Mb.

    NOT ACCEPTABLE

I have similar problems, also on the Mullingar exchange, had Eircom out yesterday checking my connection which was a complete waste of time, the service was just as bad last night.

I'm on a 7Mb connection and getting 0.6-0.8Mb in the evenings.

One question I should have asked the Eircom tech at the time but didn't think to, was when I look at the Netopia router's homepage the connection speed is never near 7Mb the best I've ever seen is 5300 odd and most times around 4800 I've tried restarting the router several times and currently it's at 5024/384 (kbps)

Can anyone tell me why this is? Is this a limitation of the equipment in the exchange or some other factor?

And here we are 5 years on and it seems little change, I moved I to a new house recently and eircom put the line in but the broadband is so bad it's u real. I ave had tecnitions out but to be honest they didn't do anything apart from get in from the cold and chat with each other for a while. The exchange says there's a fault on the line the tecnitions say there is no fault, so between them both I don't have a reliable service which I'm paying for. It's infuriating
And wonder if anyone else in the dublin 18 area has the same problem?
