Television free pubs in Galway

I was reared in a pub and I have to say I love the Irish pub culture, you know, those deep philisophical conversations, or the possibility of an impromtu sing song, or just the good old craic with a bunch of strangers who are great mates within the hour, however, I really really loath TV's in pubs. They kill conversation, they're too loud and they only ever seem to play soccer.

I can think of one pub for a start, Naughtons, it doesn't have a telly!! Any others folks?

LOL - there's at least one - behind the bar! If you stopped flirting with the barmaids and looked behind them you'd have seen it!:D

Yup the TV on non stop with the volume up is quite the conversation killer in a lot of places. However they do have their place. For sporting folk the atmosphere in a pub can be brilliant when watching a match. (Six nations, All Ireland final come to mind). ;)

    Garavans?
that place doesn't even play music. you have two options:
    1) talk nonsense
    2) sit in awkward silence

I don't mind the existence of a telly in a pub, if it's only switched on for major sporting events like Irish rugby or soccer teams playing, or all Ireland final, provincial finals etc.

I hate it when a tv is on just showing some random highlights from some premiership dross game between Nobody-upon-craphole FC and Bunghole Utd.

both pubs down by the docks - sheridans and bar 8 don't have tv's i think

which is a shame because unlike the op one of my main reasons for going to the pub is to watch sporting events

Sheridans have one but i think it's kept in a cupboard and only taken out in sporting emergencies

They have a projector they use in by the stage so technically not a 'tv' I guess. :)
