    hi recently bought a cz527 .223 rifle.

sighted it in the other day with federal vshok 55g nosler tip ammo.i've read that sighting in a .223 at 25 yards should make it fairly accurate at 200 yards. so i set it spot on at 25 yards and shot at targets every 25 yards further until 200 yards.the results were the shots got higher the further i shot until it was 3 inchs high at 200 yards.the scope is mounted just above the barrel without touching it. i was wondering could somebody give me advice on maybe different ammo or techniques that could solve this problem?

you dont really have a problem as such, just set up your 223 with that ammo to shoot about one inch or one inch and a quarter high at 100 and you will have a MPBR of about 235 yards-your good to go then, if you want to shoot further accuratley then check your drops on paper and dial up on your scope accordingly, you could use the holdover method but its not as reliable as dialling up cos when you aim at air you tend to hit air;)

Not quite sure where the problem is? What your seeing there is exactly correct. For that ammo zero'd at 25 yards it will be just over 3 inches high at 200 yards, see table below

Hawke sport optics have a free download of their ballistic recticle calculator. Don't know it compares to others but it would give you a good idea of where to start.

sorry maybe i should have been more specific.i'm aware that this is fairly normal i'm jus wondering what different ammo would work.i'm lookin for a round that will be fairly flat out to 200 yards so i dont need to be adjusting or using hold over. i'm using the gun for shooting foxes and shots wont be any more than 200 yards.

The 75gr Hornady would be about 1.4 inches high at 200 according to the calculator.

40 grain Vmax then. Zero it one inch high at 100 yards.

You can click on the doc link below to open or download it and print it out for your own use.
Each small square is 1/2 inch and each of the black lined squares is 1 inch
Second bull is 1 inch high so its perfect for sighting in @100y for a 200y zero. 1 or 4 targets per page.
