It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Season 5 (US) [**Spoilers**]

Woo hoo, Dennis, Mac, Charlie, Frank and sweet Dee are back :D! It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for its' 5th season tonight and just reading the episode title for the first episode sounds promising: "The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis". I love how politically incorrect this show is and it always cracks me up so I'm very much looking forward to it. The gang is also planning a straight-to-DVD Christmas special for this year, which should be even crazier than normal episodes are. As with all US show discussions, this thread will be spoilerific from Friday on as new episodes air on Thursdays in the US so please be aware of that if you come into the thread after a new episode has aired. I'd ask though that any discusssion of future episodes is still spoiler tagged in thread - even small spoilers can be pretty annoying if you're actively trying to avoid them...

    * Shameless plug: new episodes of Supernatural also air on Thursdays :D.

Although a lot of people weren't hugely impressed with the last season, I thought the majority of it was very good. Particularly the two-parter 'Mac & Charlie Die'.

For the past several days the stars of the irreverent FX comedy “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” (whose fifth season begins on Thursday, by the way) have been readying for a six-city tour. They will act, sing and karate-kick their way through “The Nightman Cometh,” an original stage work taken from a recent episode of the show.

Enjoyed the first episode more than any in Sesaon 4 off the top of my head. :)

Hugh Honey & Vick Vinegar.. HA! :D

Really enjoyed it.. not a classic but very funny. Loved them ramming the door from the inside after not getting a chance to ram it from the outside! :)

Great to have the gang back :). Ramming the door was pretty funny, Charlie's loose understanding of legal terms (or even the English language!), Dee's price list, Dennis' suggestions about how to get rid of the family with them right there - all good :D.

The latest episode "The Gang Hits The Road" was absolutely brillant.. even better than the 1st episode of the season.

Two moments in which I actually LOL'd:

    - Mac hitting the cyclist with the beer bottle
    - Dee hitting Mac with the jar of piss!

    :D

And “North Virginia, East Virginia, South Virginia… South Virginia.. oh wait, did I say that?”

    Great stuff!

I laughed my ass off at that one :D. Brilliant episode indeed (when the gang is all involved in the one plot, it just works better). Charlie and Dennis breaking the wicker chairs to cook the hot dogs in the U-Haul, hilarious :D. Great to see it's still in top form.

    I can't believe you're not getting this!

Some great lines in the latest episode.

I've really got to catch up with this. Making my way through seaosn 4 atm.

It's very good so far :). I didn't think the 3rd episode was as strong as the previous one but still, some funny stuff. Mac and Dennis' "Paddy's dollars" plan to "keep the money moving" was great... and the classy joint they go to for their steak dinners :D.

Enjoyed this one - perhaps not as strong as the first two but their idiocy over the self-sustaining Paddy's dollar economy was great :)

Who would have thought Mac and Dennis have such a "good" understanding of how to pull the economy out of recession? :P

Charlie in the restaurant was just classic.

Tryin to help Charlie get a girl online.
Dennis: "Ok, what are your hobbies?"

    Charlie: "Magnets!"

The whole conversation in ths scene was hilarious. :):)

May there be many more seasons.

Oh Yeah, Dennis asking Charlie about his Nightcrawling with Frank.
They crawl around like worms on the floor at night.
    BRILLIANT!!

Last couple of episodes been OK, this week's episode
    Kitten Mittons!

    Dennis:
I'm gonna toss a frame bang your way, now here's how that works; I slip into your house one night while your wife is sleeping and I ease into her real nice, and that way you're both cheating on each other and she can't clean you out.

    Dee:
    That's a win win.

Pissed myself laughing at that bit. :D

The last few episodes have been good. The gang getting themselves into crazy situations. Good to see that they brought Cricket back for an episode.

Kitten Mittens (or Mittons as Charlie would say) :D - Charlie is legendary:

Sorry for the sh*t quality - can only find the much shorter FX ad version in better quality but the full ad was a lot funnier...

Christ.. the Christmas Special was terrible!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭MikeHoncho

Having had the pleasure of watching this from Season 1 through to Season 4 in one big chunk I have to say the quality of the episodes has dropped considerably for Season 5.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Season 4 was far, far weaker IMO.

What? Charlie on Santas knee was the funniest bit of telle in years. Coming out of the couch? Crying with laughter I was.

Get new series. Every episode has been great.

Never saw the christmas episode. I think the quality has been down for past few seasons but still one of the funniest shows from America.

That was the only bit I liked.. that scene in the mall went WAAAAY further than I thought Always Sunny would.

Is it not just syndicated episodes that's about?

    D'oh.. you're right! :(

Would explain why they mention Comedy Central, and not FX!
