Got an 05 Peugeot 307 last week and the air con is not working properly. It only slightly cools the car not as much as it should. I did a search on the internet and there is a process where you can recharge the system with the coolant. It costs 60 euros in halfords http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_201507_langId_-1_categoryId_212466#tab3 I was wondering has anybody did this recharge on there cars air con system? Is it easy to do? Or is there something else wrong with the air con? Would it be expensive to get it checked out in a garage? Any advice would be great.

    hmmm

does that stuff fill holes in pipes? i got a pipe leaking on my mondeo, spent 100e last summer topping up the ac only for them to tell me a pipe was leaking. i got the pipe but haven't put it on [and don't think i will] as its too much hassle.

op: re-gassing ac is pretty dear, 100e ish would be good

I would advise against the halfords refil can,

I recently did an AC training course,And watched as how with only 50g of gas the system is presured to 3bar yet with the full 1100g it was still at 3 bar.

AFAIK these cans work off a pressure scale, there is only so much pressure a can will hold once the system reaches equal pressure no more gas can go in.It would be worth finding out what pressure these cans are at.

you should be able to get a A/C service for about 80-90 notes

If ac is running pressure in low side(suction, big pipe) drops, this allows more gas to be drawn in and eventually remove all liquid in the can.

As a fridge man the 2 most common faults i find are units with no gas or a unit that is massively overcharged, this is as bad as a system that has no gas and can damage the compressor.

My advice is to get a professional to look at it, usually e100 would see the system topped up and leak tested/repaired

Fair point, never considered the differece between low and high pressure sides of the system, allowing the gas to be drawn in.

Do the halfords cans have PAG oil / UV dye.

I got the aircon in my Prelude topped up recently. Like yours, it worked already, but wasn't as cold as I thought it could be.

I used these guys. Came out to my work and did it there for 60 euro. He'll quote you over the phone. I'm not affilliated, just a satisfied customer :)

I don't think they have the dye, that would come in a specialist kit, great for finding leaks!

I used a Halford's R134a can a while back. It has to be held upside down so that liquid and not gas goes in. When the pressure in both systems is equal the flow stops, but I would say the result was 90% as good as new.

I can't remember but I think the can contains the necessary lubricants etc, as well as refrigerant.

Tried the Halfords recharge in the end and it worked pretty well. A/C is working now alot better than before so am happy enough with the results. Thanks for all the input.
