I was wondering what is the story regarding the next superman movie or is there even going to be one, superman returns got mixed reviews and did fairly bad in the box office.

Warner bros who have the rights at the moment said on Tuesday that they have no plans for the Superman franchise in the near future. They are due to lose these rights in 2013 so they don't have much time if they are to make another film. Check out darkhorizons.com for the info.

The problem with Superman is the apparent need to have all the traditional elements in the film the origin story, Lois and Clark, Daily Planet, Lex Luthor etc etc. We have heard all this thousands of times before whats needed is a Superman film without all this I dunno Superman in space without Clark Kent fighting aliens or something but the studio seems to be rather conservative in the way they want the film to be.

Yea, it would be nice to see a reboot or something, but just starting where he is superman, no back story, nothing, we've seen that all before... and he really needs a villain he can physically fight, doomsday or the like

I don't think the problem was the Superman baggage of the auxiliary characters but directly what Bryan Singer did with the character. He made him a little creepy and forced the earlier films into the story line. It just made it very confusing for anybody to really enjoy.

There are plenty of Superman stories that could be translated easily to the big screen. Although Superman may not really be as adaptable as other comic characters. It is probably better to have him as a TV series but Smallville has become very strange and I could see them making movies from that even if they are only TV ones. In all it will be easier to do a big budget movie of other DC characters and there are plenty to choose from

Well, there's a film in development for 2011 at the moment that, last I heard, was a sequel to Superman Returns. And after that there was supposed to be another film coming out after that that was rumoured to be a reboot. I heard that a while ago, so it's probably changed by now. There's also a Bizarro Superman film (he's a villain who's the opposite of superman) but I'm not sure if it's a pig production, an animation or what have you.

Superman is a big franchise, so you can be guaranteed there will be more films. It's the quality of them you have to worry about. And I agree that the next one has to have a super villain. Bring back Zod, I say! :D

I don't know, America isn't really insecure, or feeling the need to be over-patriotic enough about anything at the moment to need a Superman movie
