    Hey guys,

So as I have hinted in a few other threads, I'm starting a new weekly Club Night in Dublin! Well, when I say me, it's a group of 7 of us - I was delighted to be asked to be included! We are all DJ's, all passionate about our music, a wide variance of backgrounds, but all very experienced - so we have got together to start a new weekly night of quality house, techo and Disco, and I think its going to be really great....

We are going to have a good varied mix of DJ's - starting off with a host of well known Dublin DJ's, along with ourselves, and we are also going to be bringing in International DJ's approx once a month. Quality House, Techno and also some Disco. The venue is a brand new place yet to host any proper nights - still secret for the moment but it's on the Quay's so its very central. We're just sorting out a sound system now and kitting the place out. Nearest I can compare it to is that it's kinda like McGruders - but nicer!

As we all know its a recession so it's going to be cheap in: €5 and probably €10 on International nights, with cheap drinks and further drinks promotions like free shots etc etc. And of course it goes without saying I'll have you feckers on the guestlist, for the first while anyway :D ! We're not in this for the money - we just want to do what we all love, create a great atmosphere and fill the place with like minded people to just have a really great time!

As soon as we have a few loose ends tied away I'll let you know more of the details, website, lineup etc, but the launch night will be on October 3rd, and we'll be running every Saturday night, so I hope to see lots of you then!

We will have some slots for new Dj's so pm me if interested, and anyone that can help promote the night we'd love to hear from you.

So stay tuned kids - and all will be revealed soon!!!

    Cheers
    Colly

Big up Colly, hope it works out for you guys - nice to see that venue back in action, used to go there a fair bit back in the Soul 28 days.

I'll definitely try and make it down to at least one of the nights anyway!

Fair play Colly, best of luck with it.
Look forward to hearing more details and having a look see when it's up and running. I haven't a notion where it is so I'll reserve judgement.

Cheers lads! Thanks for your support, can't wait for the launch, should be good fun and hope to see mnay of you down there.

I was going to wait until a few little things on the website is finished, but sure feck it: www.laundrydublin.com

The Venue, as Tyranny said used to be called "Soul 28" but is now under new management and it called "The Pint" - its on Eden Quay, just over O'Connell Bridge down towards Liberty Hall. It's just like a nice old man pub downstairs but we all fell in love with it's charm - upstairs it has a pretty cool function room type thing, very long with seating at the back and a bar in the middle, with a low ceiling, and up the front the roof opens up and there is a big stage where the decks, Dj's and dancing girls will be ;)

Tack don't worry there will not be any trouble, we'll have tight security - pus one of the lads used to run a night in the Metropolitan for ages which is right beside it, and he never had any trouble. We have a few heads from PowerFM involved as well as a few others who have run nights in the past and been very involved in the Dublin club scene, and some fresh faces too.

Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to get involved. Hamiltinion I'd be very interested in your help, I do a bit of photography myself and want to put some good photos up on the site for each night too.

So, just over 2 weeks now, can't wait!

    Why "Laundry"?

I'm guessing it used to be a Laundry? Ha

The concept of the name was dreamed up by one of the crew - Claire Roche. We just wanted something fresh and different to the standard club night names are all familiar with. The theme will follow into the night too, something different and fun - more than just a dark room with some speakers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,625 ✭✭✭✭BaZmO*

Cool. The website kinda reminds me of an old mix album that I used to love.

Sounds great, can't think of any regular rival nights on a Saturday, Spy/Wax have international dj nights on Saturdays about once in a blue moon, and it's not the best venue anyway, Colourtv is usually a Friday right? Clampdown seems to be all over the place at the moment too, so I'd say you've definitely hit a gap in the market. What kinda techno will it be? Like a few artist names?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Cool thanks man! Yea we really hope to turn this into something special, we are working hard on it, its not just another random night trying its luck! If you Please the Punters - it will be a success - so any thought or suggestions, please let me know!

http://www.laundrydublin.com/music - has some details on the type of music you can expect!

Re Internationals, we are a small setup so we have a limited budget - so we're not going to be bringing in Villalobos just yet ;) - focusing on smaller but well respected producers. Any suggestions you have for Internationals you'd like to see, please let us know and I'll certainly make the suggestions and see what the crew thinks.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Actually, one question: If anyone had any smart or innovative ideas on good ways to promote the night and get media coverage etc, please let me know. Anyone who has done this sort of thing before, what works and what does not?

Naked girls and free beer works everytime

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Considered both but there are laws around it unfortunately.

Actaully trying to attract girls to a techno night is tricky that is one thing that has to be explored.

Free beer: well I can promise very cheap drinks (I'll get back to you on exact prices/deals) and I do have one nice deal so I should have plenty of free shots to give out!

'Raresh' could be someone to think about, he played wax a while back so I'd imagine he'd be within budget, blew the roof off too I might add!!
By the way what's the capacity of the club?

Cool thanks for the suggestions, keep em coming!

Cheers to those who have got in contact offering to help - if anyone else can please send me a pm - especially looking for anyone who knows how to get press coverage etc
    Cheers!

    Seconding Gel Abril.

Also from what I hear Matthias Tanzmann was awesome the last time he was in Dublin (and they had to close the doors at around midnight the place was so packed or so I hear).

    Dominik Eulberg, Stephan Bodzin, etc.,
Oh and local heroes Sian and Donnacha Costello (support local art and all that....and the fact they're deadly).

Martin Buttrich, Betoko, Chymera (local hero again, although he's from cork).

And of course Blackout Crew, Deadmau5, Tiesto, and a hardcore breaks night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭jtsuited

oh and one of the best dj's I've ever seen : Cassy Britton (opened for Sven Vath at Cocoon two weeks ago). She's a girl dj so might be a little bit of help getting the wimmins into techno.

Word of advice, if you're going to book international guests, make sure they're well known enough to jam the place. Otherwise you are leaving yourself open to losing the shirt off your back.

While there might be a few geeks like ourselves mad into an artist, you book them without researching how well known they actually are, and you'll suddenly have a very very very expensive boards beers night.

Liking all those name and they have come up but you'd be shocked at the money some of these guys are charging. But definitely aiming towards those types in time. Totally agree with what you are saying in your second message there, but its amazing how anyone even barely well known thinks they are tiesto and want mad money. You need to hunt for well respected people willing to play for normaly money.

Donnacha Costello etc will definitely be on the cards methinks - what other Irish acts would you like to see?

I see Lil Dave is playing on the 24th of Oct - I'll try and rustle up a crew for that date.

One or two of my mates play the odd spot in Button Factory and the Pepper, i'll have an ask - one of them works for bodytonic (www.bodytonicmusic.com) so i'll ask if they could maybe give a news space. Not promising anything though!

ah tbh, it's not really a case of 'they want mad money'. The dj booking world is a fairly efficient market system, and the agencies know what they're at. There are plenty of dj's who wouldn't fill a 35 person capacity old man's pub in Dublin and can easily get 500 - 1000 people into a club on the continent or Japan etc., and the market is going to be priced accordingly.

Sh1te thing in Ireland is the venues are small so it's very difficult to get the numbers right.

Of the guys who 'think they're Tiesto' (i know what you mean here, I'm not taking the piss), I'm presuming their schedules are fairly full up (if they're not, try negotiate with their agency). Which means they're being priced accordingly by their agents.

One thing I've learned in my short time in this game, is that despite the 'underground' facade, dance music is a massive massive industry when it comes to DJ bookings.

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 12,781 Mod ✭✭✭✭Zascar

Yep absolutely. It's very interesting alright, I'm not in charge of it myself but its fun watching it all happen. Jeff I think you'll like our first International booking, should be announced soon.

I think what he meant was more along the lines of trouble with the management really - Soul 28 certainly had more of it's fair share of that!
    ;)
