I have been asked to take over getting the prizes for our society for next year, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of a good site for getting society prizes, doesnt necessarily have to be golf gear, i think nice trophies maybe engraved with date and golf course would be good...we would be interested in buying all the prizes in one go if at all possible :D,

have 7 outings per yr and spend approx €250-€300 per outing

most golfers are interested in a golf prize that could be exchanged if necessary or a voucher or green fee maybe,
trophies really only gather dust if even taken out of the box(speaking personally have some crystal/pottery that will never see the light of day), maybe society golfers or non regular players would feel different.

maybe a trophy for winner of a big outing or weekend away, other than that i'd rather something for €50 that i could get use of or swap than a piece of glass worth €200+

any way have a look here was done before & good luck.......

I play with a society and usually we would have crystal for the captains prize and maybe the presidents prize. Mostly though, for the other maybe 5 or 6 outings, we would have golf bags, lob wedges, golf shoes, €50 euro vouchers for local sports or golf shops. Then for the last one of the year the first prize is usually 2 or 3 vouchers for a top class course such as Fota or Druids Glen.

    Hope this helps

Go with golf related prizes, much better than glass!!! I have three pieces of crystal from this year and the missus says there staying in their boxes in the attic

I've played in a couple of things recently where the prizes have been hampers filled with bottles of booze, i.e. few bottles of win and a few spirits etc. Pretty **** prizes in my opinion, especially for top few places.

Personally I prefer to get "real" prizes like a cup or silver.
At a pinch or for the lesser places I would also take golf prizes but I hate when people have weird stuff like paintings etc as the prize. Thats too personal.

In 50 years time I will be able to look back and see my medals and trophies and (hopefully!) remember what I wont them for. Any bag or pair of shoes will be long gone, possibly bringing the memory with it.

    :o

I'd also prefer a tangible prize than a voucher...
Vouchers for small amounts are fine for small prizes like 9-hole competitions etc..., maybe lower placings in bigger competitions too.
I have a fair bit of crystal etc which in my opinion is fine because if I go to drink a glass of wine or pour from a decanter or have a cointreau or put some flowers on the table it reminds me of the good days :) Sure you'll get some prizes that won't suit but the same can happen with golf related stuff too... I won a golf bag as a prize about 1 week after I had just bought a bag. The same happened with shoes one time. Won a cheap hybrid with a regular shaft which I passed on, shirts that don't fit etc... the crystal I still have and every time I bring some home it adds some vital brownie points.
